Loads — Alabama Permit Test
Loads on the Alabama permit test — 3 rules, each with the reason behind it and a question on it while it is fresh.
The rules
It is unlawful to drive with a load, or with more than three persons in the front seat, that blocks the driver's view to the front and sides or interferes with control of the vehicle.
A driver who cannot see or steer freely cannot react to anything.
It is unlawful to drive any vehicle so loaded or when there are such numbers of persons in excess of three in the front seat as to obstruct the driver’s view to the front and sides or hinder the driver’s control over his vehicle.
If a load projects 4 feet or more from the rear of a vehicle, a red flag at least 12 inches square must be attached to its end in the daytime, and a red light visible for at least 200 feet at night.
A long load is easy for the driver behind to miss, so its end has to be marked.
If a load projects 4 feet or more from the rear of a vehicle, a red flag at least 12 inches square must be attached at its end in daytime and a red light, visible for at least 200 feet, must be attached to the end at night.
At night, a load projecting 4 feet or more from the rear must carry a red light at its end visible for at least 200 feet.
In the dark a flag cannot be seen, so a light has to mark the end of the load.
If a load projects 4 feet or more from the rear of a vehicle, a red flag at least 12 inches square must be attached at its end in daytime and a red light, visible for at least 200 feet, must be attached to the end at night.
On the test
How many people in the front seat is too many under Alabama law, if they block the driver's view or control?
More than three. A driver who cannot see or steer freely cannot react to anything. Alabama Driver Manual, p.67: “It is unlawful to drive any vehicle so loaded or when there are such numbers of persons in excess of three in the front seat as to obstruct the driver’s view to the front and sides or hinder the driver’s control over his vehicle.”
How this works
Most practice tests hand you a bank of questions and leave the manual somewhere else. This one puts them together.
You read one law and the reason behind it, then answer a question on that law while it is still fresh. Get it right and you move on; get it wrong and you have found the gap while it is cheap to fix, not on the morning of the exam.
Learning one rule at a time, and proving it immediately, is what turns a manual you skimmed into something you actually know — and it makes studying feel like getting somewhere rather than like waiting to find out.
What it costs
- One payment, once — not a subscription. Nothing renews and there is nothing to cancel, for an exam you sit one time.
- Free to start: a 10-question test and the first section of cards. No sign-up and no account.
- Paying opens the rest of the cards, unlimited full-length practice tests, and retests built from exactly the questions you got wrong.
- Every level up to Prepared — 3 tests passed in a row.
- Do the work, fail the real exam, and we refund you.
