Point system suspensions — Alabama Permit Test
Point system suspensions on the Alabama permit test — 7 rules, each with the reason behind it and a question on it while it is fresh.
The rules
Under the Alabama point system, 12 to 14 points in a 2-year period bring a 60-day suspension.
Points add up to show a pattern of unsafe driving, and the first step of the schedule takes the license for two months.
12-14 Points in a 2-year period 60 days
Under the Alabama point system, 15 to 17 points in a 2-year period bring a 90-day suspension.
Each band of points adds time, so a worse record means a longer suspension.
15-17 Points in a 2-year period 90 days
Under the Alabama point system, 18 to 20 points in a 2-year period bring a 120-day suspension.
The schedule keeps climbing so a driver who keeps collecting points keeps losing more time.
18-20 Points in a 2-year period 120 days
Under the Alabama point system, 21 to 23 points in a 2-year period bring a 180-day suspension.
At this level a driver has shown months of unsafe driving and loses the license for half a year.
21-23 Points in a 2-year period 180 days
Under the Alabama point system, 24 or more points in a 2-year period bring a 365-day suspension.
The top of the schedule takes a full year, the longest suspension points alone can bring.
24 and above points in a 2-year period 365 days
Points from a traffic conviction count toward suspension for two years from the date of conviction but remain on your driving record.
The two-year window lets a driver work their way back, but the record still shows what happened.
purposes for a period of two years from the date of conviction but remain on a driver’s record.
On receiving notice of a suspension, the driver may request a pre-suspension or administrative hearing in their county of residence before an ALEA agent.
A hearing gives a driver the chance to be heard before the state takes the license.
Upon receipt of notice of the suspension of his driver license, the driver may request a pre-suspension or administrative hearing in the county of his residence before an agent of the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.
On the test
How long is your license suspended for 12 to 14 points in a 2-year period?
60 days. Points add up to show a pattern of unsafe driving, and the first step of the schedule takes the license for two months. Alabama Driver Manual, p.19: “12-14 Points in a 2-year period 60 days”
How this works
Most practice tests hand you a bank of questions and leave the manual somewhere else. This one puts them together.
You read one law and the reason behind it, then answer a question on that law while it is still fresh. Get it right and you move on; get it wrong and you have found the gap while it is cheap to fix, not on the morning of the exam.
Learning one rule at a time, and proving it immediately, is what turns a manual you skimmed into something you actually know — and it makes studying feel like getting somewhere rather than like waiting to find out.
What it costs
- One payment, once — not a subscription. Nothing renews and there is nothing to cancel, for an exam you sit one time.
- Free to start: a 10-question test and the first section of cards. No sign-up and no account.
- Paying opens the rest of the cards, unlimited full-length practice tests, and retests built from exactly the questions you got wrong.
- Every level up to Prepared — 3 tests passed in a row.
- Do the work, fail the real exam, and we refund you.
