Seat belts — Colorado Permit Test

Seat belts on the Colorado permit test — 5 rules, each with the reason behind it and a question on it while it is fresh.

The rules

Colorado law requires a fastened seat belt to be worn in all motor vehicles with a factory-equipped seat belt system while in operation on public roadways, by the driver, front seat passengers and children under 16.

A belt is what keeps you behind the wheel instead of through the windshield. The people it names are the ones a crash reaches first.

Colorado law requires a fastened seat belt to be worn in all motor vehicles with a factory-equipped seat belt system while in operation on public roadways by: ● The driver ● Front seat passengers ● Children under 16

Colorado Driver Handbook, p.3

Emergency personnel, passenger buses and school buses are exempt from the Colorado seat belt requirement.

An ambulance crew has to move around in the back, and a bus is built to survive a crash differently. The exceptions are narrow and named.

The only exceptions are: ● Emergency personnel ● Passenger buses and school buses

Colorado Driver Handbook, p.3

The driver of a delivery van is exempt from the seat belt requirement while on the job.

A delivery driver gets in and out dozens of times an hour at low speed. The law trades a small risk for a rule people would ignore anyway.

The only exceptions are: ● Emergency personnel ● Passenger buses and school buses ● Farm equipment ● The driver of delivery vans while on the job

Colorado Driver Handbook, p.3

A person carrying a written medical statement from a physician saying they are not physically or psychologically required to wear seat belts is exempt.

For a few people a belt does more harm than good, and a doctor is the one who can say so. The statement has to be written and carried.

The only exceptions are: ● Emergency personnel ● Passenger buses and school buses ● Farm equipment ● The driver of delivery vans while on the job ● Anyone carrying a written medical statement from a physician stating they are not physically or psychologically required to wear seat belts The Colorado child passenger protection law requires children to be properly fastened into an appropriate child restraint system.

Colorado Driver Handbook, p.3

Passengers in a motor vehicle driven by anyone younger than 18 must be properly restrained or wear seat belts, and the number of passengers must not exceed the number of seat belts.

A young driver carrying more people than belts is the crash that kills several at once. Counting belts is the simplest limit there is.

The number of passengers in vehicles driven by persons younger than 18 must not exceed the number of seat belts

On the test

Who must wear a seat belt under Colorado law?

The driver, front seat passengers and children under 16. A belt is what keeps you behind the wheel instead of through the windshield. The people it names are the ones a crash reaches first. How this works

Most practice tests hand you a bank of questions and leave the manual somewhere else. This one puts them together.

You read one law and the reason behind it, then answer a question on that law while it is still fresh. Get it right and you move on; get it wrong and you have found the gap while it is cheap to fix, not on the morning of the exam.

Learning one rule at a time, and proving it immediately, is what turns a manual you skimmed into something you actually know — and it makes studying feel like getting somewhere rather than like waiting to find out.

What it costs

  • One payment, once — not a subscription. Nothing renews and there is nothing to cancel, for an exam you sit one time.
  • Free to start: a 10-question test and the first section of cards. No sign-up and no account.
  • Paying opens the rest of the cards, unlimited full-length practice tests, and retests built from exactly the questions you got wrong.
  • Every level up to Prepared — 3 tests passed in a row.
  • Do the work, fail the real exam, and we refund you.
