Traffic signals — Colorado Permit Test
Traffic signals on the Colorado permit test — 4 rules, each with the reason behind it and a question on it while it is fresh.
The rules
A steady red light means stop until a green light appears.
Stopping is required every time. The two turns Colorado allows on red are made only after that stop, and only where no sign forbids them.
Steady red light: Stop until a green light appears
After stopping and yielding to pedestrians and other traffic, and if not prohibited by a traffic sign, you may turn right while the light is red.
The stop comes first and is not optional. Rolling round the corner takes away the look that the rule exists to make you take.
After stopping and yielding to pedestrians and other traffic, and if not prohibited by a traffic sign, you may turn right while the light is red
A steady yellow light means a red light is about to appear, so stop unless you are already in the intersection.
Yellow is a warning, not an invitation to hurry. If you are already inside the intersection, stopping would leave you blocking it.
Steady yellow light: A red light is about to appear
At a steady green light you may go straight through or turn right or left after yielding to any vehicle or pedestrian within the intersection or adjacent crosswalk, unless a sign prohibits the turn.
Green gives you the right to go, not the right to go into someone. Whoever is already in the intersection was there first.
After yielding to any vehicle or pedestrian within the intersection or adjacent crosswalk, you may proceed straight through or turn right or left unless a sign prohibits such turns

How this works
Most practice tests hand you a bank of questions and leave the manual somewhere else. This one puts them together.
You read one law and the reason behind it, then answer a question on that law while it is still fresh. Get it right and you move on; get it wrong and you have found the gap while it is cheap to fix, not on the morning of the exam.
Learning one rule at a time, and proving it immediately, is what turns a manual you skimmed into something you actually know — and it makes studying feel like getting somewhere rather than like waiting to find out.
What it costs
- One payment, once — not a subscription. Nothing renews and there is nothing to cancel, for an exam you sit one time.
- Free to start: a 10-question test and the first section of cards. No sign-up and no account.
- Paying opens the rest of the cards, unlimited full-length practice tests, and retests built from exactly the questions you got wrong.
- Every level up to Prepared — 3 tests passed in a row.
- Do the work, fail the real exam, and we refund you.
