Id cards and designations — Florida Permit Test
Id cards and designations on the Florida permit test — 6 rules, each with the reason behind it and a question on it while it is fresh.
The rules
You may not hold a Florida driver license and a Florida ID card at the same time; a license holder who wants an ID card must surrender the license.
Two state cards with one name on them is how one person becomes two on paper.
You are prohibited from holding both a driver license and an ID card at the same time.
An ID card issued to someone aged 5 to 14 is valid for four years; every other ID card is valid for eight years.
A child’s face changes fast, so their card is checked again sooner than an adult’s.
ID cards issued to persons 5–14 years of age will be valid for four years; all others will be valid for eight years.
A homeless person can get a Florida ID card at no cost with a current letter from a local homeless shelter.
An ID is what you need to get a job or a room, so charging for it traps the people who need it.
If you are homeless, you can get an ID card at no cost.
A male US citizen or immigrant aged at least 18 and under 26 must comply with Selective Service registration when applying for a license or ID card.
Florida checks the federal registration at the counter, so a missing one stops the application.
State law requires any male who is a US citizen or immigrant, who is at least 18 years old but less than 26 years old, to comply with Federal Selective Service System requirements when applying to receive a driver license, a learner’s license, a commercial driver’s license, an ID card, or a renewal or replacement card or license.
An honorably discharged US veteran may have “Veteran” placed on a license or ID card at no charge.
The card then proves the service without carrying discharge papers everywhere.
Any honorably discharged US veteran may have the designation “Veteran” placed on their driver license or ID card at no charge.
Joining Florida’s organ and tissue donor registry when getting or renewing a license could save up to eight lives.
The decision is made at the counter, long before the day it would ever matter.
By registering as a donor, you could save up to eight lives.
On the test
May a Florida driver license holder also hold a Florida ID card?
No, the driver license must be surrendered. Two state cards with one name on them is how one person becomes two on paper. Official Florida Driver License Handbook, p.11: “You are prohibited from holding both a driver license and an ID card at the same time.”
How this works
Most practice tests hand you a bank of questions and leave the manual somewhere else. This one puts them together.
You read one law and the reason behind it, then answer a question on that law while it is still fresh. Get it right and you move on; get it wrong and you have found the gap while it is cheap to fix, not on the morning of the exam.
Learning one rule at a time, and proving it immediately, is what turns a manual you skimmed into something you actually know — and it makes studying feel like getting somewhere rather than like waiting to find out.
What it costs
- One payment, once — not a subscription. Nothing renews and there is nothing to cancel, for an exam you sit one time.
- Free to start: a 10-question test and the first section of cards. No sign-up and no account.
- Paying opens the rest of the cards, unlimited full-length practice tests, and retests built from exactly the questions you got wrong.
- Every level up to Prepared — 3 tests passed in a row.
- Do the work, fail the real exam, and we refund you.
