Taking the license exams — Florida Permit Test
Taking the license exams on the Florida permit test — 5 rules, each with the reason behind it and a question on it while it is fresh.
The rules
An applicant for an original Florida driver license takes a vision and hearing screening, the Class E Knowledge Exam and the Driving Skills Test.
Three exams, and they ask three different things: can you see, do you know, can you drive.
Persons applying for an original Florida driver license are required to take the following exams:
The purpose of the driver license examination is to determine that you can understand road signs, traffic signals and markings.
A sign only works if the driver reading it takes the same meaning from it as everybody else.
Can understand road signs, traffic signals, and markings.
The Class E Knowledge Exam is also available through third party providers approved by FLHSMV.
The exam is the same wherever it is sat, so a long wait at the service center is not the only option.
The Class E Knowledge Exam is also available through third party providers approved by FLHSMV.
Students under 18 may take the knowledge exam online through an approved third party provider.
The online option is for students under 18, which is exactly who is sitting it first.
Students under 18 may take the knowledge exam online.
A driver license service center may test any student who passed through a school program again, on a random basis, before issuing a license.
A random re-test is what keeps a school program honest without checking every student in it.

Which exams does a first-time Florida applicant take?

How this works
Most practice tests hand you a bank of questions and leave the manual somewhere else. This one puts them together.
You read one law and the reason behind it, then answer a question on that law while it is still fresh. Get it right and you move on; get it wrong and you have found the gap while it is cheap to fix, not on the morning of the exam.
Learning one rule at a time, and proving it immediately, is what turns a manual you skimmed into something you actually know — and it makes studying feel like getting somewhere rather than like waiting to find out.
What it costs
- One payment, once — not a subscription. Nothing renews and there is nothing to cancel, for an exam you sit one time.
- Free to start: a 10-question test and the first section of cards. No sign-up and no account.
- Paying opens the rest of the cards, unlimited full-length practice tests, and retests built from exactly the questions you got wrong.
- Every level up to Prepared — 3 tests passed in a row.
- Do the work, fail the real exam, and we refund you.
