Regulatory signs — Indiana Permit Test
Regulatory signs on the Indiana permit test — 11 rules, each with the reason behind it and a question on it while it is fresh.
The rules
This sign tells you to stop and yield the right of way before entering the intersection.
A full stop gives you time to see cross traffic and people on foot before you go.
Eight-sided traffic signs warn drivers that they must stop and yield the appropriate right of way at an intersection.
At this sign, slow down and be ready to stop if a vehicle or pedestrian with the right of way is coming.
Yielding means the other driver should never have to brake because of you.
A yield sign indicates that a driver must slow down when approaching an intersection and be prepared to come to a complete stop if a vehicle or pedestrian with the right of way is approaching from another direction.
This sign means you may not enter the road from this direction.
It faces drivers about to go the wrong way, often on a ramp or a one-way street.
Do Not Enter
This sign tells you that you are going the wrong way and must take action at once.
Driving against traffic leads to head-on crashes, so turn back as soon as it is safe.
A “Wrong Way” sign is an example of a traffic sign with a red background.
This sign, posted on the right side of the road, means passing is not allowed.
It marks places where you cannot see far enough ahead to pass safely.
a white rectangular “Do Not Pass” sign is posted on the right-hand side of the road
This sign tells you to keep to the right of the divider or obstacle ahead.
Passing on the wrong side of a median puts you in the path of oncoming cars.
Keep Right
This sign means you may not turn right here.
Turns are banned where they would cross people on foot or a busy lane.
No Right Turn
This sign means you may not turn left here.
A left turn across busy traffic is dangerous where the sight lines are poor.
turn movement prohibitions like “No Left Turn.”
This sign means you may not make a U-turn here.
Turning around here would put you across traffic that cannot see you in time.
No U-Turn
This sign means you may not turn on a red light here, even after stopping.
Some corners have heavy foot traffic or poor sight lines, so the usual turn on red is not allowed.
No Turn on Red
This sign means traffic on this road moves only in the direction of the arrow.
Driving the other way would put you head-on with every car on the street.

On the test
What must you do at this sign?
Stop and yield the right of way. A full stop gives you time to see cross traffic and people on foot before you go. Indiana Driver's Manual, p.28: “Eight-sided traffic signs warn drivers that they must stop and yield the appropriate right of way at an intersection.”
How this works
Most practice tests hand you a bank of questions and leave the manual somewhere else. This one puts them together.
You read one law and the reason behind it, then answer a question on that law while it is still fresh. Get it right and you move on; get it wrong and you have found the gap while it is cheap to fix, not on the morning of the exam.
Learning one rule at a time, and proving it immediately, is what turns a manual you skimmed into something you actually know — and it makes studying feel like getting somewhere rather than like waiting to find out.
What it costs
- One payment, once — not a subscription. Nothing renews and there is nothing to cancel, for an exam you sit one time.
- Free to start: a 10-question test and the first section of cards. No sign-up and no account.
- Paying opens the rest of the cards, unlimited full-length practice tests, and retests built from exactly the questions you got wrong.
- Every level up to Prepared — 3 tests passed in a row.
- Do the work, fail the real exam, and we refund you.
