Warning signs on the Indiana permit test — 14 rules, each with the reason behind it and a question on it while it is fresh.

The rules

This sign warns of an intersection ahead where a crossroad meets your road.

Cars may enter from either side, so slow down and look both ways as you get near.

Intersection Ahead

Indiana Driver's Manual, p.29

This sign marks a no-passing zone, and it is posted on the left side of the road.

It is placed where you would look as you pull out to pass, so you see it in time to stay in your lane.

A yellow, pennant-shaped “No Passing Zone” is posted on the left-hand side of the road,

Indiana Driver's Manual, p.38

This sign warns of a curve ahead in the road.

Taking a curve too fast can push the car off the road, so slow down before it, not in it.

Curve Ahead

Indiana Driver's Manual, p.29

This sign warns of a sharp turn ahead and tells you to slow down.

A sharp turn is much tighter than a curve and cannot be taken at normal speed.

Sharp Turn Slow Down

Indiana Driver's Manual, p.29

This sign warns that deer may cross the road ahead.

Deer move in groups and freeze in headlights. Hitting one at speed can kill the people in the car.

A median will soon separate the two directions, so stay on the right side of it.

Going downhill your speed builds up, and trucks need extra room to stop.

Steep Downgrade

Indiana Driver's Manual, p.29

This sign warns of a stop sign ahead.

The stop sign may be hidden by a hill or curve, so begin slowing before you see it.

Indiana Driver's Manual, p.29

This sign warns that traffic merges into your lane ahead.

Be ready to adjust your speed so the merging driver can fit in safely.

Merging Traffic

Indiana Driver's Manual, p.29

This sign warns of two-way traffic ahead.

Oncoming cars will now share the road with you, so stay right and do not pass carelessly.

On the test

What does this sign warn of?

An intersection ahead. Cars may enter from either side, so slow down and look both ways as you get near. Indiana Driver's Manual, p.29: “Intersection Ahead”

How this works

Most practice tests hand you a bank of questions and leave the manual somewhere else. This one puts them together.

You read one law and the reason behind it, then answer a question on that law while it is still fresh. Get it right and you move on; get it wrong and you have found the gap while it is cheap to fix, not on the morning of the exam.

Learning one rule at a time, and proving it immediately, is what turns a manual you skimmed into something you actually know — and it makes studying feel like getting somewhere rather than like waiting to find out.

What it costs

  • One payment, once — not a subscription. Nothing renews and there is nothing to cancel, for an exam you sit one time.
  • Free to start: a 10-question test and the first section of cards. No sign-up and no account.
  • Paying opens the rest of the cards, unlimited full-length practice tests, and retests built from exactly the questions you got wrong.
  • Every level up to Prepared — 3 tests passed in a row.
  • Do the work, fail the real exam, and we refund you.
