Alcohol and the law — Kansas Permit Test

Alcohol and the law on the Kansas permit test — 6 rules, each with the reason behind it and a question on it while it is fresh.

The rules

A driver found to have .08 blood alcohol concentration or higher is in violation of Kansas law.

This is the line the state draws. Above it, nothing about how you feel or drive matters to the charge.

If you are found to have .08 blood alcohol concentration (BAC) or higher, you are in violation of the law.

Kansas Driving Handbook, p.23

In Kansas a driver with a BAC of .08 or more may have their license and driving privileges suspended for 30 days and may be subject to criminal penalties.

The license goes before any court date. That is on top of whatever the criminal case brings.

If you have a BAC of .08 or more, your driver's license and driving privileges may be suspended for 30 days and you may be subject to criminal penalties.

Kansas Driving Handbook, p.23

In Kansas a driver under 21 can be arrested for alcohol impairment at .02 BAC.

A quarter of the adult limit is enough under 21. There is no allowance for a single drink.

In Kansas, if you are under (21), you can also be arrested for alcohol impairment at [.02%].

Kansas Driving Handbook, p.23

Even under .08 a Kansas driver is still impaired and can be convicted for driving impaired.

Being under the limit is not a defense. The charge is about how you were driving, not only the number.

Even under .08 you are still impaired. Under the law you can still be convicted for driving impaired.

Kansas Driving Handbook, p.23

In Kansas it is illegal for anyone under the age of 21 to purchase, possess or drink alcoholic beverages.

Possession alone is the offense. It does not take a drink or a drive to break this one.

If you are under the age of twenty-one (21), it is illegal to purchase, possess or drink alcoholic beverages.

Kansas Driving Handbook, p.22

Impairment starts with the first drink, and with one or more drinks in the bloodstream a person is visibly impaired and could be arrested for driving under the influence.

There is no free first drink. The change is visible to an officer before it is obvious to the drinker.

Impairment starts with the first drink. Even one drink of alcohol can affect a person's ability to operate a motor vehicle.

On the test

At what blood alcohol concentration is a Kansas driver in violation of the law?

.08 or higher. This is the line the state draws. Above it, nothing about how you feel or drive matters to the charge. Kansas Driving Handbook, p.23: “If you are found to have .08 blood alcohol concentration (BAC) or higher, you are in violation of the law.”

How this works

Most practice tests hand you a bank of questions and leave the manual somewhere else. This one puts them together.

You read one law and the reason behind it, then answer a question on that law while it is still fresh. Get it right and you move on; get it wrong and you have found the gap while it is cheap to fix, not on the morning of the exam.

Learning one rule at a time, and proving it immediately, is what turns a manual you skimmed into something you actually know — and it makes studying feel like getting somewhere rather than like waiting to find out.

What it costs

  • One payment, once — not a subscription. Nothing renews and there is nothing to cancel, for an exam you sit one time.
  • Free to start: a 10-question test and the first section of cards. No sign-up and no account.
  • Paying opens the rest of the cards, unlimited full-length practice tests, and retests built from exactly the questions you got wrong.
  • Every level up to Prepared — 3 tests passed in a row.
  • Do the work, fail the real exam, and we refund you.
