Collision escape moves — Louisiana Permit Test
Collision escape moves on the Louisiana permit test — 6 rules, each with the reason behind it and a question on it while it is fresh.
The rules
If a collision looks probable, turn away even if it means leaving the road, and choose to hit something soft that will yield, such as brush or shrubs.
Bushes absorb a crash slowly, while a tree or wall stops the car and the people in it all at once.
Choose to hit something that will give way (such as brush or shrubs) rather than something hard.
If you have to hit something, try to make it a glancing blow; a sideswipe is better than a head-on collision.
A glancing hit spreads the force and slows the car less sharply than a straight-on hit.
A sideswipe, for example, is better than a head-on collision.
Never cross over into the oncoming traffic lane to avoid a crash.
The other driver may swerve back into their own lane, right into you.
Never cross over into the oncoming traffic lane.
Sometimes you may need to speed up quickly to avoid a collision, such as when a car is about to hit you from the side or from behind.
Moving out of the way fast can take you out of the path of a car you cannot stop.
Sometimes you may need to speed up quickly to avoid a collision.
If a car passing you cannot finish the pass because of oncoming traffic, help by slowing down and moving as far right as you safely can.
Slowing opens a space in front of you so the passing car can pull in before it hits someone.
1. If the passing vehicle continues to attempt to pass, you can help by slowing your vehicle and moving as far to the right as you can safely.
If a passing driver cannot complete the pass and must drop back, increase your speed so they can move in behind you.
Speeding up opens a gap behind you so the driver can get back in line safely.
2. If the other driver definitely cannot complete the pass and must drop back, increase your speed so that he can move in behind you.
On the test
If you must leave the road to avoid a crash, what should you try to hit?
Brush or shrubs. Bushes absorb a crash slowly, while a tree or wall stops the car and the people in it all at once. Class D & E Driver's Guide, p.113: “Choose to hit something that will give way (such as brush or shrubs) rather than something hard.”
How this works
Most practice tests hand you a bank of questions and leave the manual somewhere else. This one puts them together.
You read one law and the reason behind it, then answer a question on that law while it is still fresh. Get it right and you move on; get it wrong and you have found the gap while it is cheap to fix, not on the morning of the exam.
Learning one rule at a time, and proving it immediately, is what turns a manual you skimmed into something you actually know — and it makes studying feel like getting somewhere rather than like waiting to find out.
What it costs
- One payment, once — not a subscription. Nothing renews and there is nothing to cancel, for an exam you sit one time.
- Free to start: a 10-question test and the first section of cards. No sign-up and no account.
- Paying opens the rest of the cards, unlimited full-length practice tests, and retests built from exactly the questions you got wrong.
- Every level up to Prepared — 3 tests passed in a row.
- Do the work, fail the real exam, and we refund you.
