Defensive driving safety guidelines — Louisiana Permit Test
Defensive driving safety guidelines on the Louisiana permit test — 6 rules, each with the reason behind it and a question on it while it is fresh.
The rules
Do not start the engine until every passenger in the car, including children and pets, is secured.
In a crash, a loose child or dog is thrown around the car and can hurt everyone inside.
Don’t start the engine without securing each passenger in the car, including children and pets.
A car that straddles the center line, weaves, makes wide turns, stops abruptly or responds slowly to signals may have an impaired driver.
Spotting a drunk or drugged driver early gives you time to get away from them before they hit you.
If you notice that a car is straddling the center line, weaving, making wide turns, stopping abruptly or responding slowly to traffic signals, the driver may be impaired.
To get away from an impaired driver, turn right at the nearest corner or leave at the nearest exit.
The safest place to be is far from a driver who cannot control the car, so leave the road they are on.
Avoid an impaired driver by turning right at the nearest corner or exiting at the nearest exit.
If an oncoming car seems to be crossing into your lane, pull over to the roadside, sound the horn and flash your lights.
Getting off the road and making noise and light gives the other driver the best chance to see you and swerve back.
If it appears that an oncoming car is crossing into your lane, pull over to the roadside, sound the horn and flash your lights.
Report a motorist driving suspiciously or recklessly to the police right away by calling *LSP (*577).
Police can stop a reckless driver before they hurt someone, but only if a driver who saw it calls in.
Notify the police immediately after seeing a motorist who is driving suspiciously or recklessly. Call *LSP (*577)
Do not contest the right of way or try to race another car during a merge.
Two cars fighting for one lane at a merge is how side-swipe crashes start.
Don’t contest the “right of way” or try to race another car during a merge.
On the test
Before you start the engine, what should you make sure of?
Every passenger, including pets, is secured. In a crash, a loose child or dog is thrown around the car and can hurt everyone inside. Class D & E Driver's Guide, p.54: “Don’t start the engine without securing each passenger in the car, including children and pets.”
How this works
Most practice tests hand you a bank of questions and leave the manual somewhere else. This one puts them together.
You read one law and the reason behind it, then answer a question on that law while it is still fresh. Get it right and you move on; get it wrong and you have found the gap while it is cheap to fix, not on the morning of the exam.
Learning one rule at a time, and proving it immediately, is what turns a manual you skimmed into something you actually know — and it makes studying feel like getting somewhere rather than like waiting to find out.
What it costs
- One payment, once — not a subscription. Nothing renews and there is nothing to cancel, for an exam you sit one time.
- Free to start: a 10-question test and the first section of cards. No sign-up and no account.
- Paying opens the rest of the cards, unlimited full-length practice tests, and retests built from exactly the questions you got wrong.
- Every level up to Prepared — 3 tests passed in a row.
- Do the work, fail the real exam, and we refund you.
