Flashing signals — Louisiana Permit Test

Flashing signals on the Louisiana permit test — 3 rules, each with the reason behind it and a question on it while it is fresh.

The rules

A flashing yellow light means slow down, look for traffic entering the intersection, and proceed with caution.

The light is not stopping anyone, so other cars may come in from the side at any time.

Flashing YELLOW Traffic Light – This warning means slow down, look for any traffic entering the intersection and proceed with caution.

Class D & E Driver's Guide, p.33

At a flashing yellow light, if traffic is in the intersection, stop and let it pass before going on.

A flashing yellow does not give you the right to push in front of cars already crossing.

If traffic is in the intersection, stop and let the traffic pass before proceeding.

Class D & E Driver's Guide, p.33

A flashing red light means you follow the same steps as at a stop sign: stop, look both ways and yield.

A flashing red often means the signal is broken or traffic is light, but cross traffic may not stop.

Flashing RED Traffic Light – This means you must stop behind a stop bar, crosswalk, or intersection before entering and use the same procedure as you would at a stop sign, by coming to a complete stop, looking both ways before entering the intersection and yielding right-of-way.

On the test

What does a flashing yellow light mean?

Slow down and go with caution. The light is not stopping anyone, so other cars may come in from the side at any time. Class D & E Driver's Guide, p.33: “Flashing YELLOW Traffic Light – This warning means slow down, look for any traffic entering the intersection and proceed with caution.”

How this works

Most practice tests hand you a bank of questions and leave the manual somewhere else. This one puts them together.

You read one law and the reason behind it, then answer a question on that law while it is still fresh. Get it right and you move on; get it wrong and you have found the gap while it is cheap to fix, not on the morning of the exam.

Learning one rule at a time, and proving it immediately, is what turns a manual you skimmed into something you actually know — and it makes studying feel like getting somewhere rather than like waiting to find out.

What it costs

  • One payment, once — not a subscription. Nothing renews and there is nothing to cancel, for an exam you sit one time.
  • Free to start: a 10-question test and the first section of cards. No sign-up and no account.
  • Paying opens the rest of the cards, unlimited full-length practice tests, and retests built from exactly the questions you got wrong.
  • Every level up to Prepared — 3 tests passed in a row.
  • Do the work, fail the real exam, and we refund you.
