Intermediate license stage — Louisiana Permit Test

Intermediate license stage on the Louisiana permit test — 6 rules, each with the reason behind it and a question on it while it is fresh.

The rules

To get an intermediate license you must pass the road skills driving test.

Before a teen drives alone, an examiner has to see them handle real traffic safely, not just answer questions.

3. Must pass the road skills driving test with at least 80% accuracy.

Class D & E Driver's Guide, p.7

An intermediate licensee may not drive between 11:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m. unless a qualified licensed driver is along.

Late-night hours bring tired drivers, drunk drivers and dark roads. New drivers crash much more at those hours.

4. Is prohibited from driving between the hours of 11:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m.,

Class D & E Driver's Guide, p.7

During curfew hours, an intermediate licensee may drive if a licensed adult at least 21, or a licensed sibling at least 18, is with them.

An older, licensed driver in the car can help a new driver through the risks of night driving.

unless accompanied by a licensed adult at least twenty-one (21) years of age or sibling at least eighteen (18) years of age.

Class D & E Driver's Guide, p.7

From 6:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m., an intermediate licensee may carry no more than 1 passenger under 21 who is not immediate family.

Young friends in the car pull a new driver's eyes and mind off the road. Each extra teen adds to the risk of a crash.

Additionally, between the hours of 6:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m.,

Class D & E Driver's Guide, p.7

Members of the intermediate licensee's immediate family do not count toward the evening passenger limit.

The limit is about a car full of teen friends. A brother or sister riding along is not the kind of trip it aims to stop.

(21) years of age that is not a member of the immediate family.

Class D & E Driver's Guide, p.7

The intermediate license must be kept until your 17th birthday.

A full year with limits lets a teen build skill alone before the curfew and passenger rules come off.

5. Must be maintained until seventeenth (17th) birthday.

On the test

What test must you pass to move up to an intermediate license?

The road skills driving test. Before a teen drives alone, an examiner has to see them handle real traffic safely, not just answer questions. Class D & E Driver's Guide, p.7: “3. Must pass the road skills driving test with at least 80% accuracy.”

How this works

Most practice tests hand you a bank of questions and leave the manual somewhere else. This one puts them together.

You read one law and the reason behind it, then answer a question on that law while it is still fresh. Get it right and you move on; get it wrong and you have found the gap while it is cheap to fix, not on the morning of the exam.

Learning one rule at a time, and proving it immediately, is what turns a manual you skimmed into something you actually know — and it makes studying feel like getting somewhere rather than like waiting to find out.

What it costs

  • One payment, once — not a subscription. Nothing renews and there is nothing to cancel, for an exam you sit one time.
  • Free to start: a 10-question test and the first section of cards. No sign-up and no account.
  • Paying opens the rest of the cards, unlimited full-length practice tests, and retests built from exactly the questions you got wrong.
  • Every level up to Prepared — 3 tests passed in a row.
  • Do the work, fail the real exam, and we refund you.
