Minor applicants — Louisiana Permit Test
Minor applicants on the Louisiana permit test — 5 rules, each with the reason behind it and a question on it while it is fresh.
The rules
An applicant 17 or younger needs the signature of the custodial parent or legal guardian for any license, including first licenses, duplicates and changes to restrictions.
A parent who signs agrees to the teen driving and takes part in the choice. The state will not license a minor without that say-so.
The signature of the custodial parent or legal guardian is required for the issuance of any license (including first time applications, duplicates and changing restrictions).
When parents share joint custody, only the domiciliary parent may sign a minor's license application.
With two parents in two homes, the law picks one to sign so there is no fight over who gets to say yes.
Only the domiciliary parent may sign if joint custody has been awarded.
Every applicant for a first driver's license must show proof of driver education training, completed before applying.
A driver education course teaches the rules and basic skills before a new driver is out alone. Skipping it leaves big gaps.
All applicants applying for their first driver’s license issuance must furnish proof of driver education training as required by law.
You must get a Temporary Instruction Permit (TIP) before taking the knowledge or skills test or doing any behind-the-wheel instruction.
The TIP puts a new student on record before they touch the wheel. Without it, a student driving in a lesson would be driving with no permit at all.
Prior to the administration of the knowledge or the skill test or any behind the wheel instruction, a Temporary Instruction Permit (TIP) must be obtained.
It is unlawful in Louisiana to have more than one driver's license, so a new resident must surrender their out-of-state license.
Two licenses would let a driver hide tickets on one card while using the other. One card keeps one clear driving record.
It is unlawful in Louisiana to have more than one driver’s license.
On the test
Whose signature is needed on a license for an applicant who is 17 or younger?
The custodial parent or legal guardian. A parent who signs agrees to the teen driving and takes part in the choice. The state will not license a minor without that say-so. Class D & E Driver's Guide, p.3: “The signature of the custodial parent or legal guardian is required for the issuance of any license (including first time applications, duplicates and changing restrictions).”
How this works
Most practice tests hand you a bank of questions and leave the manual somewhere else. This one puts them together.
You read one law and the reason behind it, then answer a question on that law while it is still fresh. Get it right and you move on; get it wrong and you have found the gap while it is cheap to fix, not on the morning of the exam.
Learning one rule at a time, and proving it immediately, is what turns a manual you skimmed into something you actually know — and it makes studying feel like getting somewhere rather than like waiting to find out.
What it costs
- One payment, once — not a subscription. Nothing renews and there is nothing to cancel, for an exam you sit one time.
- Free to start: a 10-question test and the first section of cards. No sign-up and no account.
- Paying opens the rest of the cards, unlimited full-length practice tests, and retests built from exactly the questions you got wrong.
- Every level up to Prepared — 3 tests passed in a row.
- Do the work, fail the real exam, and we refund you.
