The rules

A crosswalk exists at most intersections whether or not it is marked with painted lines.

An unmarked crossing is still a crossing, so someone on foot at a plain intersection has the same right to cross as one at a painted crosswalk.

When turning at a green light, drivers must yield to pedestrians crossing in the crosswalk.

A pedestrian on a green crossed legally and has no way of knowing you intend to turn across them.

Where there is no sidewalk, pedestrians must walk on the left side of the road facing oncoming traffic.

Facing the traffic lets a pedestrian see a car that has not seen them, and step aside while there is still time.
