The rules
A shared center left-turn lane is only for beginning and completing left turns and U-turns — it may not be used for through travel or passing.
A shared turn lane works only if everyone uses it briefly; driving along it turns it into a head-on lane.
A diamond symbol marks a reserved lane, such as an HOV lane requiring the posted minimum number of occupants.
The diamond marks a lane with a condition attached, so entering it without meeting the condition is a violation.
