Keeping your license current — Michigan Permit Test
Keeping your license current on the Michigan permit test — 6 rules, each with the reason behind it and a question on it while it is fresh.
The rules
Michigan law requires the address on your driver's license to match your residence address, and your license may be suspended or revoked if you fail to change it.
Notices about your license go to that address. If it is wrong, you can miss a warning that matters.
Your driver’s license may be suspended or revoked if you fail to change your address with the Secretary of State.
A Michigan driver's license is usually valid for four years and expires on your birthday in the year shown on the license.
Expiring on your birthday makes the date easy to remember.

If you are under 21, your driver's license expires on your 21st birthday.
The card is replaced when you turn 21, so the license runs out on that birthday rather than four years on.
If you are under age 21, your driver’s license expires on your 21st birthday.
Driving without a valid license is illegal, so do not let your license expire unless you will no longer be driving.
An expired license is no license at all in the eyes of the law.

You must renew your driver's license at a Secretary of State office every 12 years, where a vision screening is given and a new photograph is taken.
Eyes and faces change. An in-person visit now and then keeps the photo and the vision check current.

A driver's license will not be renewed if it has been suspended, revoked or denied.
Renewal is not a way around a suspension. The suspension has to be dealt with first.

On the test
What can happen if you fail to change your address with the Secretary of State?
Your license may be suspended or revoked. Notices about your license go to that address. If it is wrong, you can miss a warning that matters. What Every Driver Must Know, p.10: “Your driver’s license may be suspended or revoked if you fail to change your address with the Secretary of State.”
How this works
Most practice tests hand you a bank of questions and leave the manual somewhere else. This one puts them together.
You read one law and the reason behind it, then answer a question on that law while it is still fresh. Get it right and you move on; get it wrong and you have found the gap while it is cheap to fix, not on the morning of the exam.
Learning one rule at a time, and proving it immediately, is what turns a manual you skimmed into something you actually know — and it makes studying feel like getting somewhere rather than like waiting to find out.
What it costs
- One payment, once — not a subscription. Nothing renews and there is nothing to cancel, for an exam you sit one time.
- Free to start: a 10-question test and the first section of cards. No sign-up and no account.
- Paying opens the rest of the cards, unlimited full-length practice tests, and retests built from exactly the questions you got wrong.
- Every level up to Prepared — 3 tests passed in a row.
- Do the work, fail the real exam, and we refund you.
