Cannabis in a vehicle — Minnesota Permit Test

Cannabis in a vehicle on the Minnesota permit test — 6 rules, each with the reason behind it and a question on it while it is fresh.

The rules

It is illegal to operate a vehicle while under the influence of a cannabis product or an artificially derived cannabinoid.

It is the same rule as alcohol, written for the products Minnesota now sells legally.

It is illegal to operate a vehicle while under the influence of a cannabis product

Minnesota Driver’s Manual, p.94

It is illegal to use cannabis flower or a cannabis product in a vehicle when the vehicle is on a street or highway.

Using it in the car is banned whoever is using it, because of where the car is.

It is illegal for you to use cannabis flower, a cannabis product, lower-potency hemp edible

Minnesota Driver’s Manual, p.94

Cannabis products may not be carried in a private vehicle on a street or highway if the packaging has been opened or the seal broken.

It is the open-bottle rule applied to a different product: sealed is legal, opened is not.

The packaging has been opened or the seal broken

Minnesota Driver’s Manual, p.94

It is also illegal to carry a cannabis product in a vehicle if part of the contents has been removed from the packaging.

Half a package is the same problem as an open one, and the law names both.

Part of the contents have been removed from the packaging

Minnesota Driver’s Manual, p.94

You may keep these products in the trunk, or in another area not normally occupied by the driver and passengers, but never in the utility or glove compartment.

The rule is about reach: anything a driver can get to counts as being in use.

You may keep these products in the trunk of a vehicle or, if the vehicle does not have a trunk, in another area of the vehicle not normally occupied by the driver and passengers.

Minnesota Driver’s Manual, p.94

Where the owner of a private vehicle is not in it, it is illegal for the owner to allow opened cannabis products to be kept in it on a street or highway.

The rule follows the vehicle as well as the driver, so lending the car does not lend the exemption.

If the owner of a private vehicle is not present in the vehicle, it is also illegal for the owner to keep or allow these products to be kept in the vehicle when the vehicle is on a street or highway if: ■ The packaging has been opened or the seal broken. ■ Part of the contents have been removed from the packaging.

On the test

What does Minnesota say about driving under the influence of cannabis?

It is illegal in every case. It is the same rule as alcohol, written for the products Minnesota now sells legally. Minnesota Driver’s Manual, p.94: “It is illegal to operate a vehicle while under the influence of a cannabis product”

How this works

Most practice tests hand you a bank of questions and leave the manual somewhere else. This one puts them together.

You read one law and the reason behind it, then answer a question on that law while it is still fresh. Get it right and you move on; get it wrong and you have found the gap while it is cheap to fix, not on the morning of the exam.

Learning one rule at a time, and proving it immediately, is what turns a manual you skimmed into something you actually know — and it makes studying feel like getting somewhere rather than like waiting to find out.

What it costs

  • One payment, once — not a subscription. Nothing renews and there is nothing to cancel, for an exam you sit one time.
  • Free to start: a 10-question test and the first section of cards. No sign-up and no account.
  • Paying opens the rest of the cards, unlimited full-length practice tests, and retests built from exactly the questions you got wrong.
  • Every level up to Prepared — 3 tests passed in a row.
  • Do the work, fail the real exam, and we refund you.
