Limited and canceled licenses — Minnesota Permit Test
Limited and canceled licenses on the Minnesota permit test — 7 rules, each with the reason behind it and a question on it while it is fresh.
The rules
A limited license may be issued to somebody whose privileges are revoked or suspended, once any waiting period is served.
It exists so that losing a license does not also mean losing a job.
Under some circumstances, a limited license may be issued to a person whose driving privileges are revoked or suspended.
A limited license allows travel to and from work and to and from chemical dependency treatment or counseling.
The trips it covers are the ones that keep a person working and getting better.
Traveling to and from your place of employment.
A limited license also allows driving dependent children or other dependents for medical, educational or nutritional needs.
Somebody has to take the children to the doctor, and the state carves that out.
Providing transportation for dependent children and other dependents living in your household for medical, educational or nutritional needs.
A limited license allows travel to and from a post-secondary institution where you are enrolled.
Being enrolled is the test, so it covers the student who has to get to class.
Traveling to and from a post-secondary institution where you are enrolled.
Your license may be canceled if you do not have a legal right to the license issued to you.
Cancellation is the state saying the card should never have been issued, rather than punishing a violation.
Your license may be canceled if you do not have a legal right to the driver’s license issued to you.
A license may be canceled if you acquire a mental or physical disability that makes you unable to drive safely.
It is not a penalty, which is why it is cancellation rather than revocation.

Giving false or misleading information on a license application cancels the license for 60 days or until the correct information is provided, whichever is longer.
The card comes back when the truth does, and not before 60 days either way.

On the test
Who may be issued a limited license?
A driver whose privileges are revoked. It exists so that losing a license does not also mean losing a job. Minnesota Driver’s Manual, p.88: “Under some circumstances, a limited license may be issued to a person whose driving privileges are revoked or suspended.”
How this works
Most practice tests hand you a bank of questions and leave the manual somewhere else. This one puts them together.
You read one law and the reason behind it, then answer a question on that law while it is still fresh. Get it right and you move on; get it wrong and you have found the gap while it is cheap to fix, not on the morning of the exam.
Learning one rule at a time, and proving it immediately, is what turns a manual you skimmed into something you actually know — and it makes studying feel like getting somewhere rather than like waiting to find out.
What it costs
- One payment, once — not a subscription. Nothing renews and there is nothing to cancel, for an exam you sit one time.
- Free to start: a 10-question test and the first section of cards. No sign-up and no account.
- Paying opens the rest of the cards, unlimited full-length practice tests, and retests built from exactly the questions you got wrong.
- Every level up to Prepared — 3 tests passed in a row.
- Do the work, fail the real exam, and we refund you.
