Point consequences — Missouri Permit Test

Point consequences on the Missouri permit test — 9 rules, each with the reason behind it and a question on it while it is fresh.

The rules

If you accumulate a total of 4 points in 12 months, the Department sends you a point accumulation advisory.

The advisory is a warning shot. Nothing has been taken yet, and that is the point of sending it.

If you accumulate a total of 4 points in 12 months, the Department will send you a point accumulation advisory.

Missouri Driver Guide, p.73

If you accumulate 8 or more points in 18 months, your driving privilege will be suspended.

Eight in eighteen months is reachable with two ordinary convictions. That is how close it is.

If you accumulate a total of 8 or more points in 18 months, your driving privilege will be suspended.

Missouri Driver Guide, p.73

A first suspension for accumulating 8 points in 18 months lasts 30 days.

Thirty days is the shortest of the three, and it is the one that is meant to be a lesson.

1st suspension — 30 days

Missouri Driver Guide, p.73

A second point suspension lasts 60 days.

Each suspension is longer than the one before it, and the sequence does not reset quickly.

2nd suspension — 60 days

Missouri Driver Guide, p.73

A third or subsequent point suspension lasts 90 days.

Ninety days is where the suspensions stop lengthening, because the next step is revocation.

3rd (or subsequent) suspension — 90 days

Missouri Driver Guide, p.73

Your driving privilege will be revoked for one year if you accumulate 12 or more points in 12 months.

Revocation is a different thing from suspension. The license ends rather than pauses.

12 or more points in 12 months

Missouri Driver Guide, p.73

Your driving privilege will be revoked for one year if you accumulate 18 or more points in 24 months.

The longer window allows more points, because the state is looking for a pattern rather than a bad month.

18 or more points in 24 months

Missouri Driver Guide, p.73

Your driving privilege will be revoked for one year if you accumulate 24 or more points in 36 months.

Three windows, three thresholds, and any one of them reached is a revocation.

24 or more points in 36 months

Missouri Driver Guide, p.73

Reinstatement after a non-alcohol point suspension or revocation requires proof of insurance on an SR-22 and a $20 reinstatement fee.

Two requirements, and the insurance filing is the one that lasts.

Pay a $20 reinstatement fee.

On the test

How many points in 12 months brings a point accumulation advisory?

Four points. The advisory is a warning shot. Nothing has been taken yet, and that is the point of sending it. Missouri Driver Guide, p.73: “If you accumulate a total of 4 points in 12 months, the Department will send you a point accumulation advisory.”

How this works

Most practice tests hand you a bank of questions and leave the manual somewhere else. This one puts them together.

You read one law and the reason behind it, then answer a question on that law while it is still fresh. Get it right and you move on; get it wrong and you have found the gap while it is cheap to fix, not on the morning of the exam.

Learning one rule at a time, and proving it immediately, is what turns a manual you skimmed into something you actually know — and it makes studying feel like getting somewhere rather than like waiting to find out.

What it costs

  • One payment, once — not a subscription. Nothing renews and there is nothing to cancel, for an exam you sit one time.
  • Free to start: a 10-question test and the first section of cards. No sign-up and no account.
  • Paying opens the rest of the cards, unlimited full-length practice tests, and retests built from exactly the questions you got wrong.
  • Every level up to Prepared — 3 tests passed in a row.
  • Do the work, fail the real exam, and we refund you.
