Point record rules — Nebraska Permit Test
Point record rules on the Nebraska permit test — 5 rules, each with the reason behind it and a question on it while it is fresh.
The rules
Convictions stay on a Nebraska driving record for 5 years, but the points stop counting 2 years after the date of violation.
A driver who thinks old points are gone too early may drive as if they have room to spare.
Convictions remain on the record for five years; however, the points no longer count two years after the date of violation.
Upon conviction, points are assessed to the driving record as of the date of the violation.
A driver who delays court thinking the points will land later still counts them from the day of the ticket.
Upon conviction of a violation, points are assessed to a driving record as of the date of violation.
When convicted of a traffic violation in another state, points are assessed to a Nebraska driving record as if it happened in Nebraska.
A driver who speeds on a trip out of state would think the ticket does not count, and keep doing it.
When convicted of a traffic violation in another state, points are assessed against a driving record as if the violation occurred in Nebraska.
A credit of 2 points may be granted for completing a DMV-approved driver improvement course before reaching 12 points, but only once every 5 years.
A driver could keep taking the class to wipe out points forever without ever driving any better.
A credit of 2 points may be granted to a driver successfully completing a DMV approved driver improvement course prior to twelve points being accumulated.
The driver improvement course must be completed before the date of the violation that would assess the twelfth point.
A driver who waits until the twelfth point lands is already revoked, and the class comes too late to help.
This course must be completed prior to the date of violation which would assess the twelfth point.
On the test
How long after the violation date do Nebraska points stop counting?
2 years after the violation. A driver who thinks old points are gone too early may drive as if they have room to spare. Nebraska Driver’s Manual, p.19: “Convictions remain on the record for five years; however, the points no longer count two years after the date of violation.”
How this works
Most practice tests hand you a bank of questions and leave the manual somewhere else. This one puts them together.
You read one law and the reason behind it, then answer a question on that law while it is still fresh. Get it right and you move on; get it wrong and you have found the gap while it is cheap to fix, not on the morning of the exam.
Learning one rule at a time, and proving it immediately, is what turns a manual you skimmed into something you actually know — and it makes studying feel like getting somewhere rather than like waiting to find out.
What it costs
- One payment, once — not a subscription. Nothing renews and there is nothing to cancel, for an exam you sit one time.
- Free to start: a 10-question test and the first section of cards. No sign-up and no account.
- Paying opens the rest of the cards, unlimited full-length practice tests, and retests built from exactly the questions you got wrong.
- Every level up to Prepared — 3 tests passed in a row.
- Do the work, fail the real exam, and we refund you.
