Illegal U turns — Nevada Permit Test
Illegal U turns on the Nevada permit test — 5 rules, each with the reason behind it and a question on it while it is fresh.
The rules
Never make a U-turn where you cannot see clearly 200 feet in each direction because of a curve, hill, rain, fog, or other reason.
A car that appears over a hill while you sit across both lanes has nowhere to go but into you.
Where you cannot see clearly 200 feet in each direction because of a curve, hill, rain, fog, or other reason.
Never make a U-turn near a grade where there is less than 500 feet of visibility in both directions.
On a slope a fast car crests the rise with little warning, and a car turning across it is hit broadside.
Near a grade where there is less than 500 feet of visibility in both directions.
Never use a fire station driveway to turn your vehicle around.
A fire truck racing out to a call can hit a car that is blocking the driveway to turn around.
Never use a fire station driveway to turn your vehicle around.
U-turns are illegal in business districts, and areas with churches, apartments, multifamily housing, and public buildings also count as business districts.
Busy blocks with homes, churches and offices fill with people and cars pulling out, so a U-turn there meets many of them.
Areas with churches, apartments, multifamily housing units, and public buildings are also considered to be business districts.
A U-turn in a school zone is prohibited except when no children are present, on a day with no school, outside the school-day hours, or when the signs or lights show the zone is not in effect.
Children near a school dart into the road, and a car swinging across the street in a U-turn may not see them.
Nevada law prohibits the operator of a vehicle from making a U-turn in a school zone except when there are no children present, it is a day when no school is in session, on school days from half an hour after schools ends to a half hour before the next school session begins or when the signs/lights designate that the school zone is currently not in effect.
On the test
A U-turn is illegal where you cannot see clearly how far in each direction?
200 feet. A car that appears over a hill while you sit across both lanes has nowhere to go but into you. Nevada Driver Handbook, p.46: “Where you cannot see clearly 200 feet in each direction because of a curve, hill, rain, fog, or other reason.”
How this works
Most practice tests hand you a bank of questions and leave the manual somewhere else. This one puts them together.
You read one law and the reason behind it, then answer a question on that law while it is still fresh. Get it right and you move on; get it wrong and you have found the gap while it is cheap to fix, not on the morning of the exam.
Learning one rule at a time, and proving it immediately, is what turns a manual you skimmed into something you actually know — and it makes studying feel like getting somewhere rather than like waiting to find out.
What it costs
- One payment, once — not a subscription. Nothing renews and there is nothing to cancel, for an exam you sit one time.
- Free to start: a 10-question test and the first section of cards. No sign-up and no account.
- Paying opens the rest of the cards, unlimited full-length practice tests, and retests built from exactly the questions you got wrong.
- Every level up to Prepared — 3 tests passed in a row.
- Do the work, fail the real exam, and we refund you.
