Tire safety — Nevada Permit Test

Tire safety on the Nevada permit test — 3 rules, each with the reason behind it and a question on it while it is fresh.

The rules

In the penny test, if any part of Lincoln's head is covered by the tread, the tire has a safe amount of tread.

A worn tire cannot grip a wet road, so the car slides when you brake or turn.

If any part of Lincoln’s head is covered by the tread, the tire has a safe amount of tread.

Nevada Driver Handbook, p.27

Check your tires for wear and damage once every month, or before a long road trip.

A tire worn thin or cut can blow out at highway speed far from help.

Once every month, or before you go on a long road trip, check tires for wear and damage problems.

Nevada Driver Handbook, p.27

Check tire pressure with a gauge against the psi in the owner's manual or on the driver's side door jamb.

A tire filled to the wrong pressure wears fast, grips poorly and can fail on a hot road.

Prior to entering the vehicle, using a tire pressure gauge, check tire pressure using the recommended pounds per square inch (psi) located in the vehicle owner’s manual or the driver’s side door jamb of the vehicle.

On the test

In the penny test, what shows a tire has a safe amount of tread?

Part of Lincoln's head is covered by tread. A worn tire cannot grip a wet road, so the car slides when you brake or turn. Nevada Driver Handbook, p.27: “If any part of Lincoln’s head is covered by the tread, the tire has a safe amount of tread.”

How this works

Most practice tests hand you a bank of questions and leave the manual somewhere else. This one puts them together.

You read one law and the reason behind it, then answer a question on that law while it is still fresh. Get it right and you move on; get it wrong and you have found the gap while it is cheap to fix, not on the morning of the exam.

Learning one rule at a time, and proving it immediately, is what turns a manual you skimmed into something you actually know — and it makes studying feel like getting somewhere rather than like waiting to find out.

What it costs

  • One payment, once — not a subscription. Nothing renews and there is nothing to cancel, for an exam you sit one time.
  • Free to start: a 10-question test and the first section of cards. No sign-up and no account.
  • Paying opens the rest of the cards, unlimited full-length practice tests, and retests built from exactly the questions you got wrong.
  • Every level up to Prepared — 3 tests passed in a row.
  • Do the work, fail the real exam, and we refund you.
