Crashes — Ohio Permit Test

Crashes on the Ohio permit test — 5 rules, each with the reason behind it and a question on it while it is fresh.

The rules

A driver does not leave a crash scene before exchanging contact and insurance details, and where the damaged vehicle was unoccupied that means leaving a note.

Leaving without doing it is the six-point offense, the heaviest the table carries.

Do not leave the scene until you have exchanged contact and insurance information with those involved, which includes leaving a note if the damaged vehicle was not occupied.

Digest of Ohio Motor Vehicle Laws, p.47

At a crash a driver checks for injuries, calls 911 if anyone is hurt, does not move the injured, and keeps them warm.

Moving somebody with a spinal injury is how a survivable crash stops being one.

Do not move the injured; keep them warm.

Digest of Ohio Motor Vehicle Laws, p.47

A driver exchanges information with others involved but does not discuss fault or insurance coverage, and answers the investigating officer's questions without discussing the crash with others.

Fault is decided later by people with the whole picture.

Exchange information with others involved in the accident, but do not discuss fault or insurance coverage.

Digest of Ohio Motor Vehicle Laws, p.47

A driver may file a crash report with the BMV within six months where damage exceeded four hundred dollars or somebody was injured, and the other driver or owner had no insurance.

Both conditions have to hold, and the six months runs from the crash.

There was damage in excess of $400, or personal injury; and The driver or owner of the other vehicle did not have insurance or other financial responsibility coverage at the time of the crash.

Digest of Ohio Motor Vehicle Laws, p.47

After a crash a driver stops, warns approaching traffic with the hazard lights, and in minor crashes moves the vehicle out of the flow of traffic where it is safe to do so.

A crash blocking a lane is about to cause the second crash.

Stop and take immediate steps to warn approaching traffic. Turn on your hazard lights. In minor crashes, if possible and safe to do so, remove your vehicle from the flow of traffic.

On the test

You damage a parked car and the owner is not there. What must you do?

Leave a note with your contact and insurance details. Leaving without doing it is the six-point offense, the heaviest the table carries. Digest of Ohio Motor Vehicle Laws, p.47: “Do not leave the scene until you have exchanged contact and insurance information with those involved, which includes leaving a note if the damaged vehicle was not occupied.”

How this works

Most practice tests hand you a bank of questions and leave the manual somewhere else. This one puts them together.

You read one law and the reason behind it, then answer a question on that law while it is still fresh. Get it right and you move on; get it wrong and you have found the gap while it is cheap to fix, not on the morning of the exam.

Learning one rule at a time, and proving it immediately, is what turns a manual you skimmed into something you actually know — and it makes studying feel like getting somewhere rather than like waiting to find out.

What it costs

  • One payment, once — not a subscription. Nothing renews and there is nothing to cancel, for an exam you sit one time.
  • Free to start: a 10-question test and the first section of cards. No sign-up and no account.
  • Paying opens the rest of the cards, unlimited full-length practice tests, and retests built from exactly the questions you got wrong.
  • Every level up to Prepared — 3 tests passed in a row.
  • Do the work, fail the real exam, and we refund you.
