Phones under 18 — Ohio Permit Test
Phones under 18 on the Ohio permit test — 3 rules, each with the reason behind it and a question on it while it is fresh.
The rules
A driver under eighteen may not use any electronic device while driving, not even hands-free, and not while stopped at a traffic light or sitting in a jam.
The exemption that lets adults take a hands-free call does not exist for a driver under eighteen.
It is illegal to use any electronic device while driving, even hands-free, or while sitting at a traffic light or in a traffic jam.
A first device violation by a driver under eighteen brings a sixty-day license suspension and a fine of one hundred and fifty dollars; a second brings a year's suspension and three hundred dollars.
For an adult the first offense is points; under eighteen it is the license itself.
First violation: 60-days Driver License suspension and a $150 fine.
The only exceptions for a driver under eighteen are using the device for navigation and calling emergency services.
Two exceptions, and both are the device doing something the drive itself needs.
Exceptions allow use for navigation device purposes, or emergency services calls.
On the test
May a driver under 18 take a hands-free call at a red light?
No, the ban covers hands-free use and stopped traffic too. The exemption that lets adults take a hands-free call does not exist for a driver under eighteen. Digest of Ohio Motor Vehicle Laws, p.11: “It is illegal to use any electronic device while driving, even hands-free, or while sitting at a traffic light or in a traffic jam.”
How this works
Most practice tests hand you a bank of questions and leave the manual somewhere else. This one puts them together.
You read one law and the reason behind it, then answer a question on that law while it is still fresh. Get it right and you move on; get it wrong and you have found the gap while it is cheap to fix, not on the morning of the exam.
Learning one rule at a time, and proving it immediately, is what turns a manual you skimmed into something you actually know — and it makes studying feel like getting somewhere rather than like waiting to find out.
What it costs
- One payment, once — not a subscription. Nothing renews and there is nothing to cancel, for an exam you sit one time.
- Free to start: a 10-question test and the first section of cards. No sign-up and no account.
- Paying opens the rest of the cards, unlimited full-length practice tests, and retests built from exactly the questions you got wrong.
- Every level up to Prepared — 3 tests passed in a row.
- Do the work, fail the real exam, and we refund you.
