The rules

A driver may cross a double yellow center line when necessary and safe to provide the required four-foot clearance while passing a bicycle.

A rider needs four feet of room, and the line matters less than leaving it.

A driver turning right must not turn across the path of a bicyclist proceeding straight unless the turn can be made safely.

The turning vehicle crosses the bicycle’s established path and can strike or force the rider from the roadway.

Do not force a bicyclist off the roadway; wait until a safe, lawful pass can be completed.

Road edges contain drains, debris, and surface hazards that can cause a rider to fall under the passing vehicle.
