Vehicle catches fire — Rhode Island Permit Test

Vehicle catches fire on the Rhode Island permit test — 3 rules, each with the reason behind it and a question on it while it is fresh.

The rules

If smoke comes from under the hood, pull off the road immediately, turn off the ignition, and move away from the vehicle.

A fire under the hood can spread to the cabin in minutes, and no one should be inside when it does.

Pull immediately off the road, turn your ignition to the off position, and move away from the vehicle.

Rhode Island Driver’s Manual, p.46

If the fire is under the hood and flames are shooting, do not open the hood.

Lifting the hood lets a rush of air feed the fire, and the flames jump at the person standing there.

If the fire is under the hood and flames are shooting, DO NOT open the hood of the vehicle.

Rhode Island Driver’s Manual, p.46

If a vehicle fire is out of control, move at least 100 feet away, because a fuel fire can make the fuel tank explode; do not try to put it out.

People standing close to watch a burning car are the ones hurt when the tank goes.

If the fire is out of control move at least 100 feet away, as a fuel fire can cause the fuel tank to explode.

On the test

You see smoke coming from under your hood. What do you do?

Pull off, turn off the ignition, get away. A fire under the hood can spread to the cabin in minutes, and no one should be inside when it does. Rhode Island Driver’s Manual, p.46: “Pull immediately off the road, turn your ignition to the off position, and move away from the vehicle.”

How this works

Most practice tests hand you a bank of questions and leave the manual somewhere else. This one puts them together.

You read one law and the reason behind it, then answer a question on that law while it is still fresh. Get it right and you move on; get it wrong and you have found the gap while it is cheap to fix, not on the morning of the exam.

Learning one rule at a time, and proving it immediately, is what turns a manual you skimmed into something you actually know — and it makes studying feel like getting somewhere rather than like waiting to find out.

What it costs

  • One payment, once — not a subscription. Nothing renews and there is nothing to cancel, for an exam you sit one time.
  • Free to start: a 10-question test and the first section of cards. No sign-up and no account.
  • Paying opens the rest of the cards, unlimited full-length practice tests, and retests built from exactly the questions you got wrong.
  • Every level up to Prepared — 3 tests passed in a row.
  • Do the work, fail the real exam, and we refund you.
