Minor permit suspension — South Dakota Permit Test
Minor permit suspension on the South Dakota permit test — 3 rules, each with the reason behind it and a question on it while it is fresh.
The rules
A minor under 16 convicted of a traffic violation or a permit violation has driving privileges suspended for thirty days (30 days) or as otherwise required by law.
A young driver who breaks the rules early and keeps driving is likely to break them again, harder.
If the Department receives record of a conviction for a traffic violation or a violation of the Instruction Permit, Restricted Permit or Driver License for a minor under 16 years of age, the driving privileges shall be suspended for a period of thirty days or as otherwise required by law.
A second traffic violation, a restricted permit violation, or a felony or Class 1 misdemeanor on an instruction or restricted minor's permit brings a suspension of 180 days or until the driver's 16th birthday, whichever is longer.
A teen who keeps getting tickets has shown they are not ready, and a long break keeps them off the road.
If convicted of a second traffic violation, a violation of a Restricted Permit, or a Felony/Class 1 Misdemeanor while driving on an Instruction or Restricted Minor’s Permit, the suspension period will be 180 days or the driver’s 16th birthday, whichever is longer.
Anyone under 18 who gets a violation without holding an instruction permit, restricted minor's permit or operator license receives the same suspension a permit holder would.
Without this, a teen could drive with no permit at all and dodge the penalty a permit holder faces.
Anyone that is under the age of 18 that receives a violation and DOES NOT have an Instruction Permit, Restricted Minor’s Permit, or Operator License, will receive a like suspension as descried in the paragraphs above.
On the test
A permit holder under 16 is convicted of a first traffic violation. How long is the suspension?
30 days. A young driver who breaks the rules early and keeps driving is likely to break them again, harder. South Dakota Driver License Manual, p.13: “If the Department receives record of a conviction for a traffic violation or a violation of the Instruction Permit, Restricted Permit or Driver License for a minor under 16 years of age, the driving privileges shall be suspended for a period of thirty days or as otherwise required by law.”
How this works
Most practice tests hand you a bank of questions and leave the manual somewhere else. This one puts them together.
You read one law and the reason behind it, then answer a question on that law while it is still fresh. Get it right and you move on; get it wrong and you have found the gap while it is cheap to fix, not on the morning of the exam.
Learning one rule at a time, and proving it immediately, is what turns a manual you skimmed into something you actually know — and it makes studying feel like getting somewhere rather than like waiting to find out.
What it costs
- One payment, once — not a subscription. Nothing renews and there is nothing to cancel, for an exam you sit one time.
- Free to start: a 10-question test and the first section of cards. No sign-up and no account.
- Paying opens the rest of the cards, unlimited full-length practice tests, and retests built from exactly the questions you got wrong.
- Every level up to Prepared — 3 tests passed in a row.
- Do the work, fail the real exam, and we refund you.
