Pickup truck bed children — Tennessee Permit Test

Pickup truck bed children on the Tennessee permit test — 3 rules, each with the reason behind it and a question on it while it is fresh.

The rules

It is illegal in Tennessee to let any child under 6 ride in the bed of a pickup truck.

Nothing holds a child in a truck bed. A bump or a sudden stop can toss them onto the road.

It is illegal in Tennessee to allow any child under the age of 6 to ride in the bed of a pickup truck.

Tennessee Comprehensive Driver License Manual, p.33

It is against the law to let a child between 6 and 12 ride in the bed of a pickup truck on any state or interstate highway.

Highway speeds turn a fall from a truck bed into a deadly one.

It is also against the law to allow any child between the ages of 6 and 12 to ride in the bed of a pickup truck on any state or interstate highway.

Tennessee Comprehensive Driver License Manual, p.33

A child may ride in a truck bed during an organized parade or ceremony if the vehicle does not go over 20 mph.

At parade speed a fall is much less likely to be deadly, so the law allows it there and nowhere fast.

One exception to this law is when a child is being transported in the bed of the vehicle when it is part of an organized parade, procession or other ceremonial event and the vehicle must not exceed the speed of twenty (20) miles per hour.

On the test

What is the age limit below which no child may ride in the bed of a pickup truck anywhere in Tennessee?

Under 6 years old. Nothing holds a child in a truck bed. A bump or a sudden stop can toss them onto the road. Tennessee Comprehensive Driver License Manual, p.33: “It is illegal in Tennessee to allow any child under the age of 6 to ride in the bed of a pickup truck.”

How this works

Most practice tests hand you a bank of questions and leave the manual somewhere else. This one puts them together.

You read one law and the reason behind it, then answer a question on that law while it is still fresh. Get it right and you move on; get it wrong and you have found the gap while it is cheap to fix, not on the morning of the exam.

Learning one rule at a time, and proving it immediately, is what turns a manual you skimmed into something you actually know — and it makes studying feel like getting somewhere rather than like waiting to find out.

What it costs

  • One payment, once — not a subscription. Nothing renews and there is nothing to cancel, for an exam you sit one time.
  • Free to start: a 10-question test and the first section of cards. No sign-up and no account.
  • Paying opens the rest of the cards, unlimited full-length practice tests, and retests built from exactly the questions you got wrong.
  • Every level up to Prepared — 3 tests passed in a row.
  • Do the work, fail the real exam, and we refund you.
