Tires and glass — Washington Permit Test
Tires and glass on the Washington permit test — 4 rules, each with the reason behind it and a question on it while it is fresh.
The rules
Tire tread should not be less than 2/32 of an inch.
Tread is what pushes water out from under the tire; worn smooth, it floats instead of gripping.
Tire tread shouldn’t be less than 2/32 of an inch.
Snow, ice, and frost must be cleared completely from all windows before driving.
A scraped patch the size of a dinner plate hides a whole crosswalk.
Completely clear snow, ice, or frost from all windows before driving.
Hanging things from the mirror or cluttering the windows with decals and items that block the view is to be avoided.
Anything swinging in front of the glass hides exactly the width of a person crossing.
Don’t hang things from your mirror or clutter your windows with decals or items that block your view.
The proper inflation pressure for a vehicle's tires is on the Tire and Loading Information label on the driver's side door edge, or in the owner's manual.
The number molded into the tire is the most it can hold, not the amount the car is built for.
The proper inflation pressure for your tires can be found on the Tire and Loading Information label on the driver’s side door edge or in your owner’s manual.
On the test
What is the least tread a tire should have?
2/32 of an inch of tread. Tread is what pushes water out from under the tire; worn smooth, it floats instead of gripping. Washington State Driver Guide, p.48: “Tire tread shouldn’t be less than 2/32 of an inch.”
How this works
Most practice tests hand you a bank of questions and leave the manual somewhere else. This one puts them together.
You read one law and the reason behind it, then answer a question on that law while it is still fresh. Get it right and you move on; get it wrong and you have found the gap while it is cheap to fix, not on the morning of the exam.
Learning one rule at a time, and proving it immediately, is what turns a manual you skimmed into something you actually know — and it makes studying feel like getting somewhere rather than like waiting to find out.
What it costs
- One payment, once — not a subscription. Nothing renews and there is nothing to cancel, for an exam you sit one time.
- Free to start: a 10-question test and the first section of cards. No sign-up and no account.
- Paying opens the rest of the cards, unlimited full-length practice tests, and retests built from exactly the questions you got wrong.
- Every level up to Prepared — 3 tests passed in a row.
- Do the work, fail the real exam, and we refund you.
