Who cannot be licensed — Alabama Permit Test
Who cannot be licensed on the Alabama permit test — 4 rules, each with the reason behind it and a question on it while it is fresh.
The rules
An Alabama driver license will not be issued to anyone under 16, to anyone whose driving privilege is suspended or revoked in any state, or to anyone who fails the examination when it is required.
A license is a promise that the driver is old enough, tested and in good standing, so any of these breaks that promise.
Any person whose driving rights or privilege is suspended or revoked in any state.
A license will not be issued to a person with a physical or mental impairment that, in the opinion of ALEA or the examining officer, will keep them from exercising reasonable and ordinary control over a motor vehicle.
A driver who cannot control the car puts everyone near them at risk, however well they know the rules.
Any person afflicted with or suffering from a physical or mental impairment which, in the opinion of the ALEA or examining officer, will prevent such person from exercising reasonable and ordinary control over a motor vehicle.
A license will not be issued to anyone under 19 who is not in compliance with Alabama Act 93-368, which requires secondary school graduation or current attendance, with limited exclusions.
Tying a teen's license to staying in school gives young drivers one more reason to finish their education.
Any person who is under the age of 19 that is not in compliance with Alabama Act 93-368, which requires secondary school graduation or current attendance, with limited exclusions.
An Alabama license will not be issued to a person who is a habitual drunkard or addicted to the use of narcotic drugs.
Alcohol and drug addiction wear away judgment and reaction time, which are exactly what a driver needs.
Any person who is a habitual drunkard or addicted to the use of narcotic drugs.
On the test
Which person may NOT be issued an Alabama driver license?
Someone whose license is suspended in another state. A license is a promise that the driver is old enough, tested and in good standing, so any of these breaks that promise. Alabama Driver Manual, p.6: “Any person whose driving rights or privilege is suspended or revoked in any state.”
How this works
Most practice tests hand you a bank of questions and leave the manual somewhere else. This one puts them together.
You read one law and the reason behind it, then answer a question on that law while it is still fresh. Get it right and you move on; get it wrong and you have found the gap while it is cheap to fix, not on the morning of the exam.
Learning one rule at a time, and proving it immediately, is what turns a manual you skimmed into something you actually know — and it makes studying feel like getting somewhere rather than like waiting to find out.
What it costs
- One payment, once — not a subscription. Nothing renews and there is nothing to cancel, for an exam you sit one time.
- Free to start: a 10-question test and the first section of cards. No sign-up and no account.
- Paying opens the rest of the cards, unlimited full-length practice tests, and retests built from exactly the questions you got wrong.
- Every level up to Prepared — 3 tests passed in a row.
- Do the work, fail the real exam, and we refund you.
