Graduated license penalties — Arizona Permit Test

Graduated license penalties on the Arizona permit test — 5 rules, each with the reason behind it and a question on it while it is fresh.

The rules

A driver under 18 with a graduated license who is convicted of a first traffic violation must attend Traffic Survival School.

The first ticket is the cheapest time to change a habit. The class comes before any suspension does.

First conviction of a traffic violation: • Must attend Traffic Survival School.

Arizona Driver License Manual and Customer Service Guide, p.13

A second traffic violation conviction brings a graduated license holder a 3-month suspension of driving privilege.

A second ticket shows the first lesson did not stick. Now the teen loses the license for a while.

Second conviction of a traffic violation: 3-month suspension of driving privilege.

Arizona Driver License Manual and Customer Service Guide, p.13

A third traffic violation conviction brings a graduated license holder a 6-month suspension of driving privilege.

Three tickets while still learning is a pattern. The time off the road doubles.

Third conviction of a traffic violation: • • 6-month suspension of driving privilege.

Arizona Driver License Manual and Customer Service Guide, p.13

Violating the graduated license curfew or passenger limits brings extra penalties, including fines and a required extension of the 6-month restricted driving period.

Breaking the limits shows the teen is not ready to drive without them. So the limits last longer.

There are additional penalties for violations of curfew and passenger restrictions, including fines and mandatory extension of the 6-month restricted driving period.

Arizona Driver License Manual and Customer Service Guide, p.13

A third conviction for curfew or passenger violations results in suspension of the graduated license holder’s driving privilege.

After three broken limits, Arizona stops extending them and takes the license instead.

Suspension of driving privilege results for a third conviction of curfew and/or passenger violations,

On the test

What must a graduated license holder do after a first traffic violation conviction?

Attend Traffic Survival School. The first ticket is the cheapest time to change a habit. The class comes before any suspension does. Arizona Driver License Manual and Customer Service Guide, p.13: “First conviction of a traffic violation: • Must attend Traffic Survival School.”

How this works

Most practice tests hand you a bank of questions and leave the manual somewhere else. This one puts them together.

You read one law and the reason behind it, then answer a question on that law while it is still fresh. Get it right and you move on; get it wrong and you have found the gap while it is cheap to fix, not on the morning of the exam.

Learning one rule at a time, and proving it immediately, is what turns a manual you skimmed into something you actually know — and it makes studying feel like getting somewhere rather than like waiting to find out.

What it costs

  • One payment, once — not a subscription. Nothing renews and there is nothing to cancel, for an exam you sit one time.
  • Free to start: a 10-question test and the first section of cards. No sign-up and no account.
  • Paying opens the rest of the cards, unlimited full-length practice tests, and retests built from exactly the questions you got wrong.
  • Every level up to Prepared — 3 tests passed in a row.
  • Do the work, fail the real exam, and we refund you.
