Instruction permit — Arizona Permit Test

Instruction permit on the Arizona permit test — 6 rules, each with the reason behind it and a question on it while it is fresh.

The rules

A graduated or operator permit holder must be accompanied by a Class A, B, C or D licensed driver at least 21 years old, who sits in the seat beside them.

A new driver misses hazards a practiced one sees. The adult beside you is there to warn you or take over.

Graduated or operator permit: you must be accompanied by a Class A, B, C or D licensed driver at least 21 years of age, who occupies the seat beside you.

You may be issued a graduated or motorcycle instruction permit if you are at least 15 years and 6 months old.

The permit starts the practice clock. Starting at 15 and a half leaves time for 6 months of practice before 16.

If you are at least 15 years and 6 months of age you may be issued a graduated and/or a motorcycle instruction permit.

You must be at least 18 years old for an operator instruction permit.

Under 18, the permit you get is the graduated one, which leads to the graduated license and its limits.

You must be at least 18 for an operator permit.

Graduated and operator instruction permits are valid for 12 months.

A permit is for learning, not for driving forever with a helper. When it runs out, you need a new one to keep practicing.

Graduated or operator permit: you must be accompanied by a Class A, B, C or D licensed driver at least 21 years of age, who occupies the seat beside you. These permits are valid for 12 months.

You must pass MVD’s written test before you are issued an Arizona instruction permit.

Even with an adult beside you, you need to know the rules before you drive. The written test comes before any practice on the road.

Applicants will be required to pass the Division’s written test before being issued an Arizona instruction permit.

Arizona gives applicants credit for the time they have held an instruction permit in another state.

A teen who moves here halfway through their permit time does not have to start over. The months already done still count.

On the test

Who must be with you when you drive on an Arizona graduated or operator permit?

A licensed driver aged 21 or older beside you. A new driver misses hazards a practiced one sees. The adult beside you is there to warn you or take over. Arizona Driver License Manual and Customer Service Guide, p.12: “Graduated or operator permit: you must be accompanied by a Class A, B, C or D licensed driver at least 21 years of age, who occupies the seat beside you.”

How this works

Most practice tests hand you a bank of questions and leave the manual somewhere else. This one puts them together.

You read one law and the reason behind it, then answer a question on that law while it is still fresh. Get it right and you move on; get it wrong and you have found the gap while it is cheap to fix, not on the morning of the exam.

Learning one rule at a time, and proving it immediately, is what turns a manual you skimmed into something you actually know — and it makes studying feel like getting somewhere rather than like waiting to find out.

What it costs

  • One payment, once — not a subscription. Nothing renews and there is nothing to cancel, for an exam you sit one time.
  • Free to start: a 10-question test and the first section of cards. No sign-up and no account.
  • Paying opens the rest of the cards, unlimited full-length practice tests, and retests built from exactly the questions you got wrong.
  • Every level up to Prepared — 3 tests passed in a row.
  • Do the work, fail the real exam, and we refund you.
