Red light running penalties — Arizona Permit Test
Red light running penalties on the Arizona permit test — 7 rules, each with the reason behind it and a question on it while it is fresh.
The rules
If you are convicted of running a red light or a flashing red light, you will be required to attend Traffic Survival School.
The course is not a choice. MVD must order it for every red light conviction the courts report.
If you run a red light (or a flashing red light) and receive a traffic citation, upon conviction of that violation you will be required to attend Traffic Survival School.
If you run a red light and cause a crash with life-threatening injuries, you may be fined up to $500 and have your driving privilege suspended for three months.
Running a red light can badly hurt someone. The law hits your wallet and takes away your driving for a season.
If you run a red light and cause a crash that results in life-threatening injuries to another driver or passenger, you may be fined up to $500 and your driving privilege may be suspended for three months.
If running a red light causes a crash with life-threatening injuries, your driving privilege may be suspended for three months.
Hurting someone badly by running a light can take your license away for a whole season of school, work and errands.
If you run a red light and cause a crash that results in life-threatening injuries to another driver or passenger, you may be fined up to $500 and your driving privilege may be suspended for three months.
If you run a red light and cause a crash that kills another driver or passenger, you may be fined up to $1,000 and have your driving privilege suspended for six months.
A death doubles the fine and the time without a license compared with a crash that only injures.
If you cause a crash that results in the death of another driver or passenger, you may be fined up to $1,000 and your driving privilege may be suspended for six months.
If running a red light causes a crash that kills another driver or passenger, you may be fined up to $1,000.
A red light run that ends a life carries the largest fine in this part of the law, on top of losing your license.
If you cause a crash that results in the death of another driver or passenger, you may be fined up to $1,000 and your driving privilege may be suspended for six months.
If you fail to complete Traffic Survival School after a red light conviction, your driving privilege is suspended indefinitely.
Skip the class and you do not get a short time out. You lose your license with no end date until you finish.
Failure to complete the course results in an indefinite suspension of your driving privilege.
Paying the fine for a red light ticket is taken as accepting responsibility and is reported to MVD as a conviction.
Paying to make the ticket go away does not make it go away. It goes on your record as if you were found guilty.
Payment of the fine is assuming responsibility for the violation and is reported to MVD as a conviction.
On the test
What must a driver do after being convicted of running a red light?
Attend Traffic Survival School. The course is not a choice. MVD must order it for every red light conviction the courts report. Arizona Driver License Manual and Customer Service Guide, p.38: “If you run a red light (or a flashing red light) and receive a traffic citation, upon conviction of that violation you will be required to attend Traffic Survival School.”
How this works
Most practice tests hand you a bank of questions and leave the manual somewhere else. This one puts them together.
You read one law and the reason behind it, then answer a question on that law while it is still fresh. Get it right and you move on; get it wrong and you have found the gap while it is cheap to fix, not on the morning of the exam.
Learning one rule at a time, and proving it immediately, is what turns a manual you skimmed into something you actually know — and it makes studying feel like getting somewhere rather than like waiting to find out.
What it costs
- One payment, once — not a subscription. Nothing renews and there is nothing to cancel, for an exam you sit one time.
- Free to start: a 10-question test and the first section of cards. No sign-up and no account.
- Paying opens the rest of the cards, unlimited full-length practice tests, and retests built from exactly the questions you got wrong.
- Every level up to Prepared — 3 tests passed in a row.
- Do the work, fail the real exam, and we refund you.
