Crash duties and information — Delaware Permit Test

Crash duties and information on the Delaware permit test — 4 rules, each with the reason behind it and a question on it while it is fresh.

The rules

In Delaware, if a crash damages only your own property, with no damage to another person or their property, you need not stay at the scene but must immediately report the crash.

A driver who hits a pole and drives home without a word leaves damage nobody can trace.

If the damage resulting from such a crash is to the property of the driver only, with no damage to the person or property of another, the driver need not stay at the scene of the crash but shall immediately report the crash.

Delaware Driver Manual, p.141

In Delaware, the driver in a crash that injures anyone must stop and render aid, including carrying the injured to a hospital or physician as needed.

An injured person left waiting by a driver who drove off may not get care in time.

The driver shall render aid to any person injured, including the carrying of the injured person to a hospital or physician for medical treatment as needed.

Delaware Driver Manual, p.141

In Delaware, after a crash with property damage, injury, or death, the driver must give their name, address, vehicle registration number, driver license number, and insurance company and policy number.

Without the other driver's insurance and policy number, a damaged car may never be paid for.

If there is personal property damage, injury, or death, the driver shall provide their name, address, vehicle registration number, driver license number, and insurance company and the policy number.

Delaware Driver Manual, p.141

In Delaware, if you hit a parked vehicle and cannot find the owner, leave a note where it can be seen saying how the owner can reach you and the date and time of the crash.

An owner who comes back to a dented car with no note has no way to find who did it.

If you cannot, leave a note in a place where it can be seen with information on how the owner can reach you and the date and time of the crash.

On the test

After a crash that damages only your own property, what must you do?

Report it at once; you need not stay. A driver who hits a pole and drives home without a word leaves damage nobody can trace. Delaware Driver Manual, p.141: “If the damage resulting from such a crash is to the property of the driver only, with no damage to the person or property of another, the driver need not stay at the scene of the crash but shall immediately report the crash.”

How this works

Most practice tests hand you a bank of questions and leave the manual somewhere else. This one puts them together.

You read one law and the reason behind it, then answer a question on that law while it is still fresh. Get it right and you move on; get it wrong and you have found the gap while it is cheap to fix, not on the morning of the exam.

Learning one rule at a time, and proving it immediately, is what turns a manual you skimmed into something you actually know — and it makes studying feel like getting somewhere rather than like waiting to find out.

What it costs

  • One payment, once — not a subscription. Nothing renews and there is nothing to cancel, for an exam you sit one time.
  • Free to start: a 10-question test and the first section of cards. No sign-up and no account.
  • Paying opens the rest of the cards, unlimited full-length practice tests, and retests built from exactly the questions you got wrong.
  • Every level up to Prepared — 3 tests passed in a row.
  • Do the work, fail the real exam, and we refund you.
