Point program actions — Delaware Permit Test

Point program actions on the Delaware permit test — 6 rules, each with the reason behind it and a question on it while it is fresh.

The rules

When a Delaware driver reaches 8 calculated points, the Division of Motor Vehicles sends the driver an advisory letter.

An early warning gives a driver the chance to slow down before the penalties get serious.

8 The Division of Motor Vehicles sends the driver an advisory letter.

Delaware Driver Manual, p.47

At 12 calculated points, a Delaware driver must complete a behavior modification/attitudinal-driving course within 90 days after notification, unless the DMV extends it.

A class that makes a driver face their own habits can stop the next ticket, or the next crash.

12 Driver must complete a behavior modification/attitudinal-driving course within 90 days after notification (unless extended by DMV).

Delaware Driver Manual, p.47

A Delaware driver at 12 points who fails to complete the required course, or prefers not to, receives a mandatory 2-month suspension.

Without a penalty for skipping it, a driver could ignore the course and keep driving the same way.

Failure to comply or upon preference of the driver, mandatory 2-month suspension will be imposed.

Delaware Driver Manual, p.47

At 14 calculated points, Delaware imposes a mandatory 4-month license suspension.

A driver who keeps adding points after the course has shown the warning did not work.

14 Mandatory 4-month license suspension.

Delaware Driver Manual, p.47

At 22 calculated points, Delaware imposes a mandatory 12-month license suspension.

A driver with that many points has been warned, trained and suspended and is still a danger.

22 Mandatory 12-month license suspension.

Delaware Driver Manual, p.48

To be reinstated after a points suspension in Delaware, the driver must complete, or have completed, a behavior modification/attitudinal-driving course within the previous two years.

Handing a license back with no training sends the same habits back onto the road.

To become eligible for reinstatement, the driver must complete or have completed a behavior modification/attitudinal-driving course within the previous two years, as of the time of reinstatement.

On the test

What does Delaware DMV do when a driver reaches 8 calculated points?

Sends the driver an advisory letter. An early warning gives a driver the chance to slow down before the penalties get serious. Delaware Driver Manual, p.47: “8 The Division of Motor Vehicles sends the driver an advisory letter.”

How this works

Most practice tests hand you a bank of questions and leave the manual somewhere else. This one puts them together.

You read one law and the reason behind it, then answer a question on that law while it is still fresh. Get it right and you move on; get it wrong and you have found the gap while it is cheap to fix, not on the morning of the exam.

Learning one rule at a time, and proving it immediately, is what turns a manual you skimmed into something you actually know — and it makes studying feel like getting somewhere rather than like waiting to find out.

What it costs

  • One payment, once — not a subscription. Nothing renews and there is nothing to cancel, for an exam you sit one time.
  • Free to start: a 10-question test and the first section of cards. No sign-up and no account.
  • Paying opens the rest of the cards, unlimited full-length practice tests, and retests built from exactly the questions you got wrong.
  • Every level up to Prepared — 3 tests passed in a row.
  • Do the work, fail the real exam, and we refund you.
