Required equipment brakes mirrors horn — Delaware Permit Test
Required equipment brakes mirrors horn on the Delaware permit test — 5 rules, each with the reason behind it and a question on it while it is fresh.
The rules
The parking or emergency brake must stop the vehicle within 54 feet from a speed of 20 mph.
If the service brakes fail, a weak parking brake is the only thing left to stop the car.
Parking or Emergency Brake - Must stop vehicle within a distance of 54 feet from a speed of 20 mph.
No stickers or signs may be placed on the windshield or other windows except certificates required by law or approved by the DMV.
A sticker in the corner of the windshield can hide a child stepping off the curb.
No stickers or signs shall be placed on windshield or other windows other than certificates required by law or those approved by the Division of Motor Vehicles.
If the view to the rear from the inside mirror is blocked, the vehicle must have outside mirrors on both the left and right sides.
A driver with a van full of boxes and only an inside mirror changes lanes into a car he cannot see.
If the view from the inside mirror to the rear is blocked, the vehicle must have outside mirrors on the left and right side of the vehicle.
Every vehicle must have a working muffler in constant use, and using a muffler cut-out is prohibited.
A car with its muffler cut out drowns out the horns and sirens other drivers need to hear.
All vehicles must be equipped with a muffler which must be in good working order and in constant operation.
A vehicle's horn must be able to be heard under normal conditions at least 200 feet away.
A horn too weak to carry gives a child running toward the street no warning at all.
Horn - Must be able to make sound that can be heard under normal conditions at least 200 feet away.
On the test
Within what distance must a parking brake stop a car going 20 mph?
54 feet. If the service brakes fail, a weak parking brake is the only thing left to stop the car. Delaware Driver Manual, p.61: “Parking or Emergency Brake - Must stop vehicle within a distance of 54 feet from a speed of 20 mph.”
How this works
Most practice tests hand you a bank of questions and leave the manual somewhere else. This one puts them together.
You read one law and the reason behind it, then answer a question on that law while it is still fresh. Get it right and you move on; get it wrong and you have found the gap while it is cheap to fix, not on the morning of the exam.
Learning one rule at a time, and proving it immediately, is what turns a manual you skimmed into something you actually know — and it makes studying feel like getting somewhere rather than like waiting to find out.
What it costs
- One payment, once — not a subscription. Nothing renews and there is nothing to cancel, for an exam you sit one time.
- Free to start: a 10-question test and the first section of cards. No sign-up and no account.
- Paying opens the rest of the cards, unlimited full-length practice tests, and retests built from exactly the questions you got wrong.
- Every level up to Prepared — 3 tests passed in a row.
- Do the work, fail the real exam, and we refund you.
