Controlled access and express lanes — Georgia Permit Test

Controlled access and express lanes on the Georgia permit test — 5 rules, each with the reason behind it and a question on it while it is fresh.

The rules

You may enter or leave a controlled-access roadway only at the entrances and exits built for it.

Everything on that road is moving at full speed and nobody is looking at the verge for a car joining.

You are prohibited from entering or leaving any controlled-access roadway at unauthorized entrances or exits

Georgia Driver's Manual, p.56

Backing up is prohibited on a controlled-access roadway in Georgia.

Nobody behind you is expecting a car to come at them, and at those speeds there is no time to work it out.

Backing up is prohibited on controlled-access roadways.

Georgia Driver's Manual, p.56

You may not enter the reversible Express Lanes when the access control gates are closed or in the act of closing.

Those lanes are about to carry traffic the other way, and the gate closing is the only warning.

You are prohibited from entering the reversible Express Lanes when the access control gates are closed or closing.

Georgia Driver's Manual, p.56

A high occupancy vehicle lane in Georgia is open to vehicles carrying more than one person, and to buses, motorcycles and cars with an Alternative Fuel Vehicle plate.

The lane only saves anybody time while the cars in it really are carrying more than one person.

High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lanes are travel lanes that are restricted to vehicles with more than one occupant, buses, motorcycles, and vehicles with Alternative Fuel Vehicle license plates.

Georgia Driver's Manual, p.112

A first offense for breaking the high occupancy lane restrictions in Georgia carries a fine of up to $75.

The fine climbs with each offense, and the fourth one adds a point to your record as well.

The penalty for violating HOV lane restrictions is a fine up to $75 for a first offense

On the test

Where may you join a controlled-access roadway in Georgia?

Only at a built entrance or exit. Everything on that road is moving at full speed and nobody is looking at the verge for a car joining. Georgia Driver's Manual, p.56: “You are prohibited from entering or leaving any controlled-access roadway at unauthorized entrances or exits”

How this works

Most practice tests hand you a bank of questions and leave the manual somewhere else. This one puts them together.

You read one law and the reason behind it, then answer a question on that law while it is still fresh. Get it right and you move on; get it wrong and you have found the gap while it is cheap to fix, not on the morning of the exam.

Learning one rule at a time, and proving it immediately, is what turns a manual you skimmed into something you actually know — and it makes studying feel like getting somewhere rather than like waiting to find out.

What it costs

  • One payment, once — not a subscription. Nothing renews and there is nothing to cancel, for an exam you sit one time.
  • Free to start: a 10-question test and the first section of cards. No sign-up and no account.
  • Paying opens the rest of the cards, unlimited full-length practice tests, and retests built from exactly the questions you got wrong.
  • Every level up to Prepared — 3 tests passed in a row.
  • Do the work, fail the real exam, and we refund you.
