Knowledge exam and road test — Georgia Permit Test
Knowledge exam and road test on the Georgia permit test — 8 rules, each with the reason behind it and a question on it while it is fresh.
The rules
Georgia’s knowledge exam has two parts, Road Signs and Road Rules, and each part is passed by answering 15 out of 20 questions correctly.
The two halves are scored on their own, so being strong on one does not carry the other.
You must correctly answer 15 out of 20 questions to pass.
The Road Signs part of the Georgia exam asks you to identify certain signs, signals and markers, and it is given in English only.
A sign has to be read at speed from a distance, which is why it is tested on sight rather than in words.
A set of questions on the meaning of standard highway signs will be given. This test is given in English only. You will be asked to identify certain signs, signals and markers.
The Road Rules part of the Georgia exam covers driver responsibility, knowledge of the laws and safe driving practices for the class of license you are applying for.
Those three things are what the manual is about, so the manual is what the paper is written from.
The road rules test consists of a set of questions about driver responsibility, knowledge of laws, and safe driving practices applicable to the class of license for which you are applying.
Breaking the rules of the Georgia testing area counts as misconduct, and misconduct during a knowledge exam makes the whole session a failure.
The rule is about the session rather than the answers, so the paper is lost whatever you had scored.
Any violation of these rules is considered misconduct. If misconduct occurs during the administration of the knowledge exam, the exam session will be counted as a failure.
After a first failure of a Georgia knowledge or road test you wait until the next day to retake the part you failed; after a second or later failure you wait 7 days.
The wait gets longer so that a retake means studying rather than guessing again straight away.
2nd or Subsequent Failure: You must wait 7 days before retaking the portion you have failed.
The Georgia Class C or D road test is passed with a minimum score of 75%.
The examiner scores the drive as it happens, and you are shown the sheet at the end of it.
You must achieve a minimum score of 75% to pass.
For the Georgia road test you park midway between two standards with the car no more than 18 inches from the curb, in a space 22 feet long by 10 feet deep.
Eighteen inches is close enough that another driver can get past you without leaving their lane.
Parallel Parking: Park midway between two standards so that your car is not more than 18 inches from the curb. The standard parallel parking dimensions utilized in the driver's license test are 22 feet in length by 10 feet in depth
The straight line backing part of the Georgia road test asks you to back about 50 feet at no more than 10 miles per hour, turning your head to look behind the vehicle and touching no boundary line.
Turning your head is the part being scored, because the mirrors do not show what is behind you.
Straight Line Backing: Back your car for a distance of approximately 50 feet at a slow rate of speed (not more than 10 miles per hour) as straight and as smoothly as possible.
On the test
How many questions must a Georgia candidate answer correctly in each part of the knowledge exam?
15 out of 20. The two halves are scored on their own, so being strong on one does not carry the other. Georgia Driver's Manual, p.30: “You must correctly answer 15 out of 20 questions to pass.”
How this works
Most practice tests hand you a bank of questions and leave the manual somewhere else. This one puts them together.
You read one law and the reason behind it, then answer a question on that law while it is still fresh. Get it right and you move on; get it wrong and you have found the gap while it is cheap to fix, not on the morning of the exam.
Learning one rule at a time, and proving it immediately, is what turns a manual you skimmed into something you actually know — and it makes studying feel like getting somewhere rather than like waiting to find out.
What it costs
- One payment, once — not a subscription. Nothing renews and there is nothing to cancel, for an exam you sit one time.
- Free to start: a 10-question test and the first section of cards. No sign-up and no account.
- Paying opens the rest of the cards, unlimited full-length practice tests, and retests built from exactly the questions you got wrong.
- Every level up to Prepared — 3 tests passed in a row.
- Do the work, fail the real exam, and we refund you.
