Distracted driving — Idaho Permit Test
Distracted driving on the Idaho permit test — 7 rules, each with the reason behind it and a question on it while it is fresh.
The rules
Anything that draws your attention away from the road can distract you, and distractions like texting, eating, reading, changing the radio station, applying makeup, looking for things in the vehicle, and dealing with children or pets can cause crashes.
A few seconds is enough. The hazard does not wait for a driver to finish what they are doing.
Looking for things inside your vehicle
If something distracts you, even for a few seconds, you may not see a hazard that can cause a crash.
A car at highway speed covers the length of a football field in those few seconds.
If something distracts you, even for a few seconds, you may not see a hazard that can cause a crash
Pre-set your favorite radio stations and load your music before you begin to drive.
Choosing a station takes the eyes off the road, and it is a job that can be done while parked.
Pre-set your favorite radio stations before you begin to drive
Keep the stereo volume low enough that you can still hear things outside the car, such as emergency sirens, horns and screeching tires.
Those sounds are usually the first warning of something you have not seen yet.
You must be able to hear emergency sirens, car horns, screeching tires, and other sounds outside your car
Have someone in the front seat act as your co-pilot to look at a phone or maps, and if you are driving alone know the route you want before you get in the car.
Working out a route while moving is reading and driving at the same time.
If you are driving alone, make sure you know the route you want to drive “before” you get in the car
Place pets in a pet carrier so they do not cause problems while you are driving.
A loose animal can end up in the driver's lap at the worst moment, and there is no way to plan for when.
Place pets in a pet carrier to make sure they do not cause problems while you are driving
If you are lost in thought and not paying attention, pull the car to the side of the road and stop, because a short break makes the drive safer.
Rest areas exist for exactly this, and stopping costs less than a crash.

On the test
Which of these does the handbook list as a driving distraction?

How this works
Most practice tests hand you a bank of questions and leave the manual somewhere else. This one puts them together.
You read one law and the reason behind it, then answer a question on that law while it is still fresh. Get it right and you move on; get it wrong and you have found the gap while it is cheap to fix, not on the morning of the exam.
Learning one rule at a time, and proving it immediately, is what turns a manual you skimmed into something you actually know — and it makes studying feel like getting somewhere rather than like waiting to find out.
What it costs
- One payment, once — not a subscription. Nothing renews and there is nothing to cancel, for an exam you sit one time.
- Free to start: a 10-question test and the first section of cards. No sign-up and no account.
- Paying opens the rest of the cards, unlimited full-length practice tests, and retests built from exactly the questions you got wrong.
- Every level up to Prepared — 3 tests passed in a row.
- Do the work, fail the real exam, and we refund you.
