Lawful presence — Idaho Permit Test
Lawful presence on the Idaho permit test — 5 rules, each with the reason behind it and a question on it while it is fresh.
The rules
Your social security number is verified through the Social Security Administration's online verification system, and it is not printed on the Idaho license or ID card.
The number is checked and then kept off the card, so a lost license does not hand it to whoever finds it.
It will not be printed on your Idaho driver's license or ID card
You must reside inside Idaho's borders to be issued an Idaho license or ID card, and you must show proof of a physical address with documents dated within 1 year.
A document from years ago proves where somebody used to live, which is not what the record needs.
Documents must be dated within 1 year
Individuals who are not lawfully present in the United States are not eligible for an Idaho driver's license or ID card.
Lawful presence is a condition of the credential, not a detail of the paperwork.
Individuals who are not lawfully present in the United States are not eligible for an Idaho driver's license or ID card
For an applicant who is not a citizen or permanent legal resident, the license expires on the end of their lawful stay or after four years, whichever is less.
The card cannot outlast the permission behind it, so the shorter of the two dates is the one printed.
the expiration date on your driver’s license will be the same date as your end of lawful stay in the United States as indicated on your documents issued by the Department of Homeland Security, or four years, whichever is less.
Where the Department of Homeland Security documents show no expiration date, the license expires one year from the date it was issued.
With no end date to read, the department sets a short one and looks at the papers again in a year.
the expiration date on the driver's license will be one year from the date of issuance of the driver's license
On the test
Where does an applicant's social security number appear after verification?
Nowhere on the license or ID card. The number is checked and then kept off the card, so a lost license does not hand it to whoever finds it. July 2026 Idaho Driver's Handbook, p.24: “It will not be printed on your Idaho driver's license or ID card”
How this works
Most practice tests hand you a bank of questions and leave the manual somewhere else. This one puts them together.
You read one law and the reason behind it, then answer a question on that law while it is still fresh. Get it right and you move on; get it wrong and you have found the gap while it is cheap to fix, not on the morning of the exam.
Learning one rule at a time, and proving it immediately, is what turns a manual you skimmed into something you actually know — and it makes studying feel like getting somewhere rather than like waiting to find out.
What it costs
- One payment, once — not a subscription. Nothing renews and there is nothing to cancel, for an exam you sit one time.
- Free to start: a 10-question test and the first section of cards. No sign-up and no account.
- Paying opens the rest of the cards, unlimited full-length practice tests, and retests built from exactly the questions you got wrong.
- Every level up to Prepared — 3 tests passed in a row.
- Do the work, fail the real exam, and we refund you.
