Regulatory signs — Idaho Permit Test
Regulatory signs on the Idaho permit test — 9 rules, each with the reason behind it and a question on it while it is fresh.
The rules
At this sign you must stop at a clearly marked stop line.
The line is placed where a driver can see along the road being entered. Stopping past it means stopping where you cannot see.
When approaching a stop sign, you must stop at a clearly marked stop line
Where this sign has no stop line, you stop before entering the crosswalk on the near side of the intersection.
The crosswalk belongs to people on foot, and a car stopped across it has taken it away from them.
If no stop line, then stop before entering the crosswalk on the near side of the intersection
With no stop line and no crosswalk, you stop at the point nearest the intersecting highway where you can see traffic approaching on it.
The stop is for the look that follows it, so it happens where there is something to see.
then stop at the point nearest the intersecting highway where the driver has a view of approaching traffic on the intersecting highway before entering it.
At this sign you must slow down and yield the right-of-way to other vehicles and pedestrians in the intersection you are crossing or the highway you are entering.
Yielding is a decision made while still moving, which is why the slowing has to come first.
You must slow down and yield the right-of-way to other vehicles and pedestrians in the intersection you are crossing or highway you are entering.
At this sign you must stop before crossing the intersection or entering the highway if stopping is necessary.
Slowing is the usual answer and stopping is the one that is left when slowing is not enough.
If necessary, stop before crossing the intersection or entering the highway
Where pedestrians are in or about to enter the crosswalk at this sign, you stop until they have crossed the highway, then proceed.
Somebody stepping off the curb has committed themselves, and there is nowhere for them to go back to.
stop until they have crossed the highway, then proceed
This sign means you may not enter that section of highway from the direction you are traveling.
It marks an exit ramp or a one-way street from the wrong end, where the traffic you would meet is head on.
You may not enter this section of highway from the direction you are traveling
This sign gives the maximum speed limit on a section of road under ideal driving conditions.
It is a ceiling set for a dry road in daylight, not a speed that is safe in rain or in the dark.
The maximum speed limit on a section of road (under ideal driving conditions)
This sign means the road ahead is divided, and you stay on the right side of the island or barrier.
Passing on the wrong side of an island puts a car head on into traffic that has right of way.
The road ahead is divided. Stay on the right side of the island or barrier
On the test
Where must a driver stop at this sign when a stop line is marked?
At the stop line. The line is placed where a driver can see along the road being entered. Stopping past it means stopping where you cannot see. July 2026 Idaho Driver's Handbook, p.44: “When approaching a stop sign, you must stop at a clearly marked stop line”
How this works
Most practice tests hand you a bank of questions and leave the manual somewhere else. This one puts them together.
You read one law and the reason behind it, then answer a question on that law while it is still fresh. Get it right and you move on; get it wrong and you have found the gap while it is cheap to fix, not on the morning of the exam.
Learning one rule at a time, and proving it immediately, is what turns a manual you skimmed into something you actually know — and it makes studying feel like getting somewhere rather than like waiting to find out.
What it costs
- One payment, once — not a subscription. Nothing renews and there is nothing to cancel, for an exam you sit one time.
- Free to start: a 10-question test and the first section of cards. No sign-up and no account.
- Paying opens the rest of the cards, unlimited full-length practice tests, and retests built from exactly the questions you got wrong.
- Every level up to Prepared — 3 tests passed in a row.
- Do the work, fail the real exam, and we refund you.
