Road test scoring — Kentucky Permit Test

Road test scoring on the Kentucky permit test — 5 rules, each with the reason behind it and a question on it while it is fresh.

The rules

A Kentucky road test covers stops, backing, turning the car around, stopping and starting on a hill, parallel parking, intersection approaches, speed, turns, lane use and overall vehicle control.

Everything on that list is practiced or it is not. The test is not a drive around the block.

The test will consist of stops, backing, turning the car around, stopping and starting on a hill, parallel parking, intersection approaches

Kentucky Driver Manual, p.13

Any collision, traffic violation or dangerous act during a Kentucky road test may cause automatic failure and the test will not be completed.

One bad decision ends the drive. There is no running total to recover from.

Any collision, traffic violation, or dangerous act may result in automatic failure, and the test will not be completed.

Kentucky Driver Manual, p.13

Failing to follow the examiner's instructions twice during a Kentucky road test results in being disqualified.

Twice is the limit. Asking the examiner to repeat something is far better than guessing at it.

Failure to follow the Examiner’s instructions two times during the test will result in being disqualified.

Kentucky Driver Manual, p.13

A Kentucky applicant is given a score sheet at the end of the road test showing pass or fail, with no numerical score on it.

There is no percentage to argue about. The sheet says passed or failed and lists what went wrong.

There will not be a numerical score on the score sheet.

Kentucky Driver Manual, p.13

The Kentucky examiner will not play tricks during the road test, and the applicant will not be asked to do anything unlawful.

An instruction that would break the law is a misheard instruction. Ask again rather than following it.

The Examiner will not play tricks during the road test, and you will not be required to do anything unlawful or illegal.

On the test

Which maneuver is part of the Kentucky road test?

Stopping and starting on a hill. Everything on that list is practiced or it is not. The test is not a drive around the block. Kentucky Driver Manual, p.13: “The test will consist of stops, backing, turning the car around, stopping and starting on a hill, parallel parking, intersection approaches”

How this works

Most practice tests hand you a bank of questions and leave the manual somewhere else. This one puts them together.

You read one law and the reason behind it, then answer a question on that law while it is still fresh. Get it right and you move on; get it wrong and you have found the gap while it is cheap to fix, not on the morning of the exam.

Learning one rule at a time, and proving it immediately, is what turns a manual you skimmed into something you actually know — and it makes studying feel like getting somewhere rather than like waiting to find out.

What it costs

  • One payment, once — not a subscription. Nothing renews and there is nothing to cancel, for an exam you sit one time.
  • Free to start: a 10-question test and the first section of cards. No sign-up and no account.
  • Paying opens the rest of the cards, unlimited full-length practice tests, and retests built from exactly the questions you got wrong.
  • Every level up to Prepared — 3 tests passed in a row.
  • Do the work, fail the real exam, and we refund you.
