Reasons for suspension — Massachusetts Permit Test
Reasons for suspension on the Massachusetts permit test — 7 rules, each with the reason behind it and a question on it while it is fresh.
The rules
If the Registry believes your driving is an immediate threat to public safety, it can suspend your permit or license immediately.
No conviction is needed and no hearing comes first. The threat itself is the grounds.
If the RMV believes that your driving is an immediate threat to public safety, it can suspend your learner's permit or driver's license immediately.
The Registry can suspend driving privileges for six months for a fake ID offense, or one year after a conviction, even without a conviction.
It does not wait for a court. Using somebody else's license is enough on its own to cost half a year.
M.G.L.c.90,§22(e) allows the RMV to suspend your license or right to operate in Massachusetts for up to six months. A conviction is not required.
Transferring, altering, or defacing a license or ID is one of the fake ID offenses that costs driving privileges.
Changing a date on a card is not a small thing to the Registry. It is the same list as making a false one.
Transferring, altering, or defacing a license/ID
Using somebody else's license or ID, or furnishing false information to obtain one, costs driving privileges.
Borrowing a card is on the same list as forging one. The Registry treats the identity as the thing being protected.

Your license will be suspended if you fail to pay required child support, register as a sex offender, or pay Massachusetts income tax.
None of these is about driving at all. The license is used as leverage because almost everybody has one.
For example, your license will be suspended if you: • Have failed to pay required child support
A bad payment to the Registry, such as a rejected check or a canceled card payment, will suspend your license.
The suspension comes from the payment failing, not from any driving. Clearing it costs the original fee plus two more.
If your license was suspended for a bad payment, you must pay the original fee, a license reinstatement fee, and a $15 fee to clear your bad payment.
Clearing a bad-payment suspension costs the original fee, a license reinstatement fee, and a $15 fee, paid in cash or by certified bank check.
Three charges rather than one, and no ordinary card or check will be accepted this time.

On the test
What can the Registry do about a driver it sees as an immediate threat?
Suspend the permit or license immediately. No conviction is needed and no hearing comes first. The threat itself is the grounds. Massachusetts Driver's Manual, p.61: “If the RMV believes that your driving is an immediate threat to public safety, it can suspend your learner's permit or driver's license immediately.”
How this works
Most practice tests hand you a bank of questions and leave the manual somewhere else. This one puts them together.
You read one law and the reason behind it, then answer a question on that law while it is still fresh. Get it right and you move on; get it wrong and you have found the gap while it is cheap to fix, not on the morning of the exam.
Learning one rule at a time, and proving it immediately, is what turns a manual you skimmed into something you actually know — and it makes studying feel like getting somewhere rather than like waiting to find out.
What it costs
- One payment, once — not a subscription. Nothing renews and there is nothing to cancel, for an exam you sit one time.
- Free to start: a 10-question test and the first section of cards. No sign-up and no account.
- Paying opens the rest of the cards, unlimited full-length practice tests, and retests built from exactly the questions you got wrong.
- Every level up to Prepared — 3 tests passed in a row.
- Do the work, fail the real exam, and we refund you.
