Non citizen licenses — Mississippi Permit Test

Non citizen licenses on the Mississippi permit test — 5 rules, each with the reason behind it and a question on it while it is fresh.

The rules

A non-citizen must meet every requirement for a license or ID card except providing a social security card.

Many non-citizens are not issued a social security card, so the state asks for immigration papers instead.

If you are a non-citizen, you must meet all requirements for a driver’s license or identification card except for providing a social security card.

Mississippi Driver's License Manual, p.12

For a Regular Driver's License, a non-citizen must have Permanent Resident/Green Card status or valid immigration papers showing their legal length of stay.

The license is tied to the right to be in the country, so the state must see that right on paper.

To obtain a Regular Driver’s License, you must have a Permanent Resident/Green Card status with the Immigration/Homeland Security Department OR valid immigration papers indicating your legally permitted length of stay in the United States.

Mississippi Driver's License Manual, p.12

A non-citizen who shows a Permanent Resident Card must show the original card; no photocopies are allowed.

A photocopy is easy to fake or alter, while the original card can be checked.

For an original license, a non-citizen's birth certificate must be translated by a university.

An office clerk cannot check a record they cannot read, so a trusted translation is required.

Mississippi Driver's License Manual, p.12

A non-citizen's regular license or ID card is valid for 4 years, or until their legal status expires if that is less than 4 years away.

A license that outlived the right to stay would let a card vouch for something no longer true.

For non-citizens, their regular license or identification card will be valid for four years or until your legal status expiration date [if less than four years away].

On the test

Which license requirement does a non-citizen not have to meet?

Providing a social security card. Many non-citizens are not issued a social security card, so the state asks for immigration papers instead. Mississippi Driver's License Manual, p.12: “If you are a non-citizen, you must meet all requirements for a driver’s license or identification card except for providing a social security card.”

How this works

Most practice tests hand you a bank of questions and leave the manual somewhere else. This one puts them together.

You read one law and the reason behind it, then answer a question on that law while it is still fresh. Get it right and you move on; get it wrong and you have found the gap while it is cheap to fix, not on the morning of the exam.

Learning one rule at a time, and proving it immediately, is what turns a manual you skimmed into something you actually know — and it makes studying feel like getting somewhere rather than like waiting to find out.

What it costs

  • One payment, once — not a subscription. Nothing renews and there is nothing to cancel, for an exam you sit one time.
  • Free to start: a 10-question test and the first section of cards. No sign-up and no account.
  • Paying opens the rest of the cards, unlimited full-length practice tests, and retests built from exactly the questions you got wrong.
  • Every level up to Prepared — 3 tests passed in a row.
  • Do the work, fail the real exam, and we refund you.
