License expiration — Montana Permit Test
License expiration on the Montana permit test — 3 rules, each with the reason behind it and a question on it while it is fresh.
The rules
A Montana license issued to someone under 21 expires on their 21st birthday.
A license that ends at 21 brings young drivers back in for a check and a new photo as adults.
If you are under the age of 21, your license expires on your 21st birthday
For drivers between 21 and 75, a Montana license expires on their birthday eight years or less after issue, or on their 75th birthday, whichever comes first.
Eyesight and health change over the years, so even a good driver has to come back in now and then.
If you are between the ages of 21 and 75, your license expires on your birthday eight years or less after the date of issuance or on your 75th birthday, whichever occurs first
For drivers 75 or older, a Montana license expires on their birthday four years or less after issue.
Vision and reaction time can fade faster later in life, so older drivers are checked more often.
If you are 75 years of age or older, your license expires on your birthday four years or less after the date of issuance
On the test
If you are under 21, when does your Montana license expire?
On your 21st birthday. A license that ends at 21 brings young drivers back in for a check and a new photo as adults. Montana Driver Manual, p.8: “If you are under the age of 21, your license expires on your 21st birthday”
How this works
Most practice tests hand you a bank of questions and leave the manual somewhere else. This one puts them together.
You read one law and the reason behind it, then answer a question on that law while it is still fresh. Get it right and you move on; get it wrong and you have found the gap while it is cheap to fix, not on the morning of the exam.
Learning one rule at a time, and proving it immediately, is what turns a manual you skimmed into something you actually know — and it makes studying feel like getting somewhere rather than like waiting to find out.
What it costs
- One payment, once — not a subscription. Nothing renews and there is nothing to cancel, for an exam you sit one time.
- Free to start: a 10-question test and the first section of cards. No sign-up and no account.
- Paying opens the rest of the cards, unlimited full-length practice tests, and retests built from exactly the questions you got wrong.
- Every level up to Prepared — 3 tests passed in a row.
- Do the work, fail the real exam, and we refund you.
