Address change and citations — Tennessee Permit Test
Address change and citations on the Tennessee permit test — 4 rules, each with the reason behind it and a question on it while it is fresh.
The rules
If you move, you must report your new address to the Department of Safety within 10 days.
Suspension notices go to the address on file. With an old address you may be driving suspended and not know it.
IMPORTANT: If you have a new address, you must report it to the Department of Safety within ten (10) days of the change.
Under the Non-Resident Violator Compact, if you ignore a traffic citation from Tennessee or another member state, your driving privileges will be suspended, revoked or canceled.
A ticket from a road trip does not stay behind at the state line. Ignoring it can cost you your license at home.
If you ignore the citation — whether it was issued for a traffic violation here or in another member state, your driving privileges will be suspended, revoked or canceled.
Driving while your license is suspended will extend the suspension and could also lead to criminal prosecution.
Driving to get through a suspension faster does the reverse. Each time you are caught, the end date moves further away.
DRIVING WHILE YOUR LICENSE IS SUSPENDED WILL RESULT IN THE EXTENSION OF THE SUSPENSION PERIOD AND COULD ALSO RESULT IN CRIMINAL PROSECUTION.
After a suspension ends, you must pay the reinstatement fees and file proof of liability insurance, with SR-22 insurance required for adults, before getting your license back.
The license does not come back on its own when the time is up. Without the fees and insurance proof you are still suspended.
Upon the completion of the suspension time, you must pay the appropriate reinstatement fees and submit proof of liability insurance/financial responsibility (SR-22 insurance is required for adult drivers) with the department before you can get your regular license.
On the test
Within how many days must you report a new address to the Department of Safety?
10 days. Suspension notices go to the address on file. With an old address you may be driving suspended and not know it. Tennessee Comprehensive Driver License Manual, p.86: “IMPORTANT: If you have a new address, you must report it to the Department of Safety within ten (10) days of the change.”
How this works
Most practice tests hand you a bank of questions and leave the manual somewhere else. This one puts them together.
You read one law and the reason behind it, then answer a question on that law while it is still fresh. Get it right and you move on; get it wrong and you have found the gap while it is cheap to fix, not on the morning of the exam.
Learning one rule at a time, and proving it immediately, is what turns a manual you skimmed into something you actually know — and it makes studying feel like getting somewhere rather than like waiting to find out.
What it costs
- One payment, once — not a subscription. Nothing renews and there is nothing to cancel, for an exam you sit one time.
- Free to start: a 10-question test and the first section of cards. No sign-up and no account.
- Paying opens the rest of the cards, unlimited full-length practice tests, and retests built from exactly the questions you got wrong.
- Every level up to Prepared — 3 tests passed in a row.
- Do the work, fail the real exam, and we refund you.
