Vision and hearing — Washington Permit Test
Vision and hearing on the Washington permit test — 4 rules, each with the reason behind it and a question on it while it is fresh.
The rules
Washington law requires a driver to pass a vision test before a license is issued.
Everything else on the road reaches you through your eyes first.
Good vision is so important for safe driving that the law requires you to pass a vision test before you get your driver license.
A driver whose license requires corrective lenses must always wear them when driving.
The vision test was passed wearing them, so the license is for the eyes you have with them on.
Always wear them when driving.
It is against the law to drive wearing earbuds, earphones, headphones, or headsets that broadcast sound or cancel noise.
Sirens and horns arrive as sound before they arrive as anything you can see.
It is against the law to drive a vehicle while wearing earbuds, earphones, headphones, or headsets that broadcast sound or cancel noise.
Peripheral vision is what lets a driver spot vehicles and other trouble out of the corner of the eye while still looking ahead.
It is the part of your sight that notices movement, which is what a child stepping off a curb is.
Peripheral vision. You can spot vehicles and other potential trouble out of the corner of your eye while you’re still looking ahead.
On the test
What does Washington law require before a driver license is issued?
That the applicant passes a vision test. Everything else on the road reaches you through your eyes first. Washington State Driver Guide, p.69: “Good vision is so important for safe driving that the law requires you to pass a vision test before you get your driver license.”
How this works
Most practice tests hand you a bank of questions and leave the manual somewhere else. This one puts them together.
You read one law and the reason behind it, then answer a question on that law while it is still fresh. Get it right and you move on; get it wrong and you have found the gap while it is cheap to fix, not on the morning of the exam.
Learning one rule at a time, and proving it immediately, is what turns a manual you skimmed into something you actually know — and it makes studying feel like getting somewhere rather than like waiting to find out.
What it costs
- One payment, once — not a subscription. Nothing renews and there is nothing to cancel, for an exam you sit one time.
- Free to start: a 10-question test and the first section of cards. No sign-up and no account.
- Paying opens the rest of the cards, unlimited full-length practice tests, and retests built from exactly the questions you got wrong.
- Every level up to Prepared — 3 tests passed in a row.
- Do the work, fail the real exam, and we refund you.
