Intermediate license restrictions — Wyoming Permit Test

Intermediate license restrictions on the Wyoming permit test — 8 rules, each with the reason behind it and a question on it while it is fresh.

The rules

A Wyoming intermediate license holder may not carry more than 1 passenger under 18 who is not immediate family, unless a licensed driver 18 or older is also aboard.

Each extra teen in the car raises a new driver's crash risk, because friends distract.

May not transport more than one passenger under the age of 18 who is not an immediate family member unless also accompanied by a licensed driver 18 years of age or older

Wyoming Rules of the Road Driver License Manual, p.14

A Wyoming intermediate license holder may carry more than 1 non-family passenger under 18 when a licensed driver 18 or older is also in the vehicle.

An adult in the car keeps the young passengers calm and the driver's attention on the road.

May not transport more than one passenger under the age of 18 who is not an immediate family member unless also accompanied by a licensed driver 18 years of age or older

Wyoming Rules of the Road Driver License Manual, p.14

A Wyoming intermediate license holder may not drive between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. unless they meet an exception and carry a completed exception form.

Late-night hours bring tired drivers, drunk drivers and darkness, the worst mix for a new driver.

May not drive between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. unless the holder meets an exception criteria and presents a completed exception form.

Wyoming Rules of the Road Driver License Manual, p.14

A Wyoming intermediate license exception form allows driving between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. to or from work, as certified by an employer.

A teen with a late shift has a real need to drive, and the employer can vouch for it.

Required to drive to or from work, as certified by an employer;

Wyoming Rules of the Road Driver License Manual, p.14

For late-night driving to school, a school activity, youth sports or a religious activity, a parent or legal guardian certifies the Wyoming exception form.

The parent knows the teen's schedule and takes responsibility for the late trip.

Required to drive to or from school, a school activity, organized youth sports activity or a religious activity, as certified by parent or legal guardian;

Wyoming Rules of the Road Driver License Manual, p.14

A Wyoming intermediate license exception form may also cover driving for a medical necessity or medical emergency, as certified or evidenced by medical personnel.

No license rule should keep a teen from getting someone to care they urgently need.

Required to drive for a medical emergency, as evidenced by medical personnel.

Wyoming Rules of the Road Driver License Manual, p.14

A Wyoming intermediate license holder must carry the signed exception form and present it to law enforcement if stopped.

An officer who stops a teen at midnight needs to see right away that the trip is allowed.

The appropriate individual (as determined by the exception) must complete and sign the exception form, and it must be carried by the licensee and presented to law enforcement if the holder is stopped.

Wyoming Rules of the Road Driver License Manual, p.14

A Wyoming intermediate license automatically expires 30 days after the holder's 17th birthday.

By 17 the driver can hold a full license, so the limited one runs out soon after.

On the test

With no adult aboard, how many non-family passengers under 18 may an intermediate holder carry?

No more than 1. Each extra teen in the car raises a new driver's crash risk, because friends distract. Wyoming Rules of the Road Driver License Manual, p.14: “May not transport more than one passenger under the age of 18 who is not an immediate family member unless also accompanied by a licensed driver 18 years of age or older”

How this works

Most practice tests hand you a bank of questions and leave the manual somewhere else. This one puts them together.

You read one law and the reason behind it, then answer a question on that law while it is still fresh. Get it right and you move on; get it wrong and you have found the gap while it is cheap to fix, not on the morning of the exam.

Learning one rule at a time, and proving it immediately, is what turns a manual you skimmed into something you actually know — and it makes studying feel like getting somewhere rather than like waiting to find out.

What it costs

  • One payment, once — not a subscription. Nothing renews and there is nothing to cancel, for an exam you sit one time.
  • Free to start: a 10-question test and the first section of cards. No sign-up and no account.
  • Paying opens the rest of the cards, unlimited full-length practice tests, and retests built from exactly the questions you got wrong.
  • Every level up to Prepared — 3 tests passed in a row.
  • Do the work, fail the real exam, and we refund you.
