Move over parked vehicles — Wyoming Permit Test

Move over parked vehicles on the Wyoming permit test — 3 rules, each with the reason behind it and a question on it while it is fresh.

The rules

On a highway with two or more lanes, when you approach a parked emergency vehicle with lights flashing, you must merge into the lane farthest from it, unless a police officer directs otherwise.

People work on foot beside those vehicles, and an extra lane of space keeps a passing car from hitting them.

Except when otherwise directed by a police officer, when you are driving on a highway with two or more lanes, upon approaching an authorized emergency vehicle or municipal, public utility, highway construction or maintenance vehicle parked with lights flashing or visual signals, you must merge your vehicle into the lane farthest from the emergency vehicle.

Wyoming Rules of the Road Driver License Manual, p.49

On a road with only one lane in each direction, slow to at least 20 mph below the speed limit when you approach a parked emergency vehicle.

When you cannot move a lane over, slowing down is the only way to give the people outside more time and room.

On roads with only one lane in each direction, you must reduce your speed to at least 20 mph below the speed limit when approaching a parked emergency vehicle.

Wyoming Rules of the Road Driver License Manual, p.49

Wyoming's move-over rule also covers municipal, public utility, highway construction and maintenance vehicles parked with lights flashing.

Road and utility crews work beside traffic just like police and medics, and are just as easy to hit.

On the test

On a highway with 2 lanes in your direction, you come up on a parked police car with lights flashing. What must you do?

Move to the lane farthest from it. People work on foot beside those vehicles, and an extra lane of space keeps a passing car from hitting them. Wyoming Rules of the Road Driver License Manual, p.49: “Except when otherwise directed by a police officer, when you are driving on a highway with two or more lanes, upon approaching an authorized emergency vehicle or municipal, public utility, highway construction or maintenance vehicle parked with lights flashing or visual signals, you must merge your vehicle into the lane farthest from the emergency vehicle.”

How this works

Most practice tests hand you a bank of questions and leave the manual somewhere else. This one puts them together.

You read one law and the reason behind it, then answer a question on that law while it is still fresh. Get it right and you move on; get it wrong and you have found the gap while it is cheap to fix, not on the morning of the exam.

Learning one rule at a time, and proving it immediately, is what turns a manual you skimmed into something you actually know — and it makes studying feel like getting somewhere rather than like waiting to find out.

What it costs

  • One payment, once — not a subscription. Nothing renews and there is nothing to cancel, for an exam you sit one time.
  • Free to start: a 10-question test and the first section of cards. No sign-up and no account.
  • Paying opens the rest of the cards, unlimited full-length practice tests, and retests built from exactly the questions you got wrong.
  • Every level up to Prepared — 3 tests passed in a row.
  • Do the work, fail the real exam, and we refund you.
